J. V. Baseball Boys Break Even
The Baby Bishops ran into a little rough weather in their games with Brookville and Appomattox. The former, playing efficiently with an age advantage, smothered the J.V.'s by an indicative score of 16-0. Regard- less of the score and apparent lack of hitting power, it was a good de- fensive g a me on the part of the
J.V. 's, who, fighting the tremendous odds, showed up well against superior forces.

Kings Of The Green
The V.E.S. Golf team is in the mid- dle of its most successful season. The team's first victory of the year was a 18-0 rout over Fishburne Military Academy. When the team traveled to Woodberry Forest May 3, it suf- fered its first defeat, 8-1, by strong, W oodberry golfers. The teom re- bounded with a 240-20 drubbing over the V.P.I . freshmen. Still con- tinuing their winning streak, V.E.S. defeated Woodbery, on home course

Charles McCormick, Ned Baber and Billy Carroll, the three re- turni ng lettermen from last year's team, were greatly aided by the serv- ices of three fine North Carolina golfers, John McKee, Ed Rollins and Elvey Thomas. S c o t t Russell and Boyd Kimball playing seventh and eighth, give our team very strong support.
Softball Is In The Air
Here at V. E. S. there have always
been softball tournaments between the dorms near the end of school when baseball and track seasons are over. Every boy gets a qreat deal of enjoyment out of the softball games.
In last year's tournament there were some very close and good games . The dorm that took the

lightening to the Baby Bishops than a 6-4 score might indicate. Marshall Long, a catcher kidnapped from the Varsity, was a great asset in keeping the score as close as it was.
The J.V.'s evened up their seasonal record at 3 wins, 3 losses, by edging a sharp Bedford team 3-2. Relatively speaking, the W yatt men showed up well the whole season through. Reg- ulars throughout were infielders, Frank Craighill, Bobby Gi ll espie, Davey Hyer, Pete Webb, Frank Dunn, Jim Reebals, Jim Post; outfielders, Donny Grimes, Hart Gary, and P. B. Winfree; a.nd the battery , catchers, Marshall Long, Bill Johnson, our reg-
ular, and Donny Poyne, pitcher.

under the leadership of "Doc" Ma- gill, Second West, under the leader- ship of "Rocky" Lee, got to the championship game but lost in a very tight and close game.
This year's winner will be hard to pick. Every dorm looks powerful and there ought to be some close games.
The day students who did not do so well last year but who had a lot of spirit ought to put up a good fight.
