BISHOPS DROP OPENER
Bedford High School came from behind in the final three quarters to overcome the Bishops in their first game by a 52-48 margin. V. E. S. started with a rush and were leading by as much as 14 points early in the first quarter but the Otters roared back in the second quarter, outscor- inq the Bishops 16-6 in that period. Cliff Towe made the only V. E. S. field goal in the third period, and the Bedford boys threatened to make a runaway of the game until big Bootie Cranz started hitting on his outside set shots to pull the Bishops to their final four-point deficit.
Cranz was the V. E. S. high scorer, with 17 points, followed by Towe, who dumped in I0. Jim Woolery and Towe both shone on defense for the losing cause. Bedford center Jim Marsh was high for the game with 9 field goals and 22 points.
FORK UNION WINS
Fork Union Military high-powered basketball squad swept into an early lead and then complete- ly outclassed V. E. S., 70-30, at Fork Union.
The Cadets used on even dozen men and II of them broke into the scoring column. Wilson with a hook shot scored five baskets in the first quarter, two more than the entire Bishop team picked up for that peri- od. Fork Union then went on a set shooting spree and led by 38-1 I at half time. Blair Farinholt was high for V. E. S. with I0 points. Cliff Towe dumped in 8. This game left the Bis- hops with a 2-4 record.
BISHOPS IN DOUBLE WIN
V. E. S. took a doubleheader from AMA, the J.V . 's winning 58-37 and the Varsity 60-40. The Varsity, held in check somewhat the first period, opened up in the second and third quarters, leading by 48-23 at the end of the third quarter. Coach Bartol icrked the first team before the first quarter was over. Jim Woolery and Cliff Towe as usual led the V. E. S. uprising, although Larry Moye led the scorers with 13. Guards Towe and Woolery followed with 12 and I0, re- spectively .
Brent Nash, Jim McGee, and "Bull- doq" Turner were the Bishops' con- trolling factors under the boards, and George Ross poured in 6 points and also rebounded well. In the prelim- inary game, big "Whale" Long dumped in 22 points and Ed Rollins got IS in the 58-37 rout of the AMA

FIFTEEN AND UNDER BASKETBALL SUMMARY
The Fifteen and Under Team is un- defeated in outside games, but are thus far winless in the City League.
Playing in the dark confines of the City Armory, the Fifteen and Under has dropped three games.
Against Appomattox (there) the young Bishops, led by big Stark Mundy, scored almost at will. The story was the same when Appomat- tox played here.
The starting team thus far has been Mundy at center, Rand and Debb at guards and Moss and Jenkins at the forward positions. Thomas, Simpson, E. Dul a n e y , A s h t o n a n d M c D o n a l d back them up. The team is coached by Mr. Harris.

CHAFFIN, TOWE LEAD V. E. S. OVER FISHBURNE
A full court press which Fishburne Mttary School used and the new bonus rule of free throws played an in;:ortant role as V. E. S. nipped the Cadets 61-58 a t home. Fishburne out- shot the Bishops from the floor 22-14, out the Bishops got an amazing total of 45 free shots, converting on 33.
V. E. S. went to work on the Cadets immediate ly, taking a 14-9 lead in the first quarter-supported mostly by the shooting of Brent Nash and A b Chaffin - a n d stretched their 1ead to 8 points at the half.
But Fishburne came roaring back, and in the final minute of play held a 57-56 advantage. But big Fishburne forward Seamster tried a shot and wa~ charging. Jim Woolery made one shot good, and Cliff Towe droppe-1 in ar:other as the Bishops went ahead. Then Chaffin dumped in a bucket to r • the gar:le on ice.

WOODBERRY WINS, 55-48 The Bishops lost their fifth game to Woodberry Forest at Orange by a count of 55-48. V. E. S., trailing by 8 points after four minutes of play, closed the gap to 16-15 at the end of the first quarter, but were outscored by 13 points in the next two periods and were behind 57-33 at the end of the third quarter. A last-ditch rally by the Bishops fell short. Blair Farinholt ed the rally but the Bishops were too far behind when they started hitting. Brent Nash, who held Sid Paine to a single basket in the first half, fouled out midway in the third period. He had scored 8 points and his loss rob-
corer with 16 points, and Alex Chaf- fir followed with I0. Larry Smith led Woodberry with 15.
