FISHBURNE WINS
A Virginia Episcopal basketball squad, slowed down by a "flu" virus, got dumped for the third straight time by a count of 67-54 to Fishburne Military School at Waynesboro.
Despite rather weak offensive and defensive play, the Bishops kept it fairly close in the first quarter, with the shooting of Cliff Towe and Jim Woolery making the score 15-1 1 after the first quarter. But the Cadets proceeded to trample the Bishops in the second quarter and at the half the count was 29-17, Fishburne. Both clubs went wild in the third quarter 49 pcints swishing through, 25 by
Fishburne and 24 by V. E. S. High- scoring Cliff Towe was the games top point man, hitting for 20 points. followed by Woolery with 13. Blair F a r i n h o lt g o t 8 a n d h e a n d B r e n t Nash played a great game under the boards.
THE BABY BISHOPS
The 1955 edition of the Baby Bishops made their debut against the powerful Boys' Home of Covington which is undefeated in seven states. The Boys' Home squad was a bit too strong for the Bishops as they won 57-33. The fact that it was the J. V.'s first game and that it was played on a foreign court contribu- ted to their defeat.
Next the Bishops traveled to Appo- mattox where they rolled up a 60-53 score. Lovingston also fell before the ever-improving Bishops by a score of 51-30. Appomattox came to town next, but they were no match for the J. V.'s as they lost 84-27.
Brookville and A. M.A., which were supposed to be better opposition for the Bishops, went down 67-37 and 54- 37, r e s p e c t i v e l y . N e w L o n d o n , i n spite of showing good rebound power, was no match for the better shots of V. E. S. as they were stomped by a score of 58-32.
The Bishops next will try to prove that they are a good team by aveng- ing the early season defeat by Cov- ington.
Rollins, Thomas, Philpott, Gillespie, McKee, Bonney, Long, and Harper have done the majority of the play- i n g , b a c k e d u p b y Elli o t t , M a r l e y , Cowper, and Reebals.
As this edition goes to press, the Bishops are averaging 58.1 points to its opponents 33.8.
