BISHOPS BREAK TIE TO TOP BEDFORD, 8-6
Hardy Dillard drove a two run homer over the right field fence to break a 6-6 tie ond give the Bishops an 8-6 win over Bedford High School.
The winning pitcher was Farinholt who replaced Dillard in the top of the fifth and held the Otters for the remainin('l two innings.
Rucker, the Otter first baseman, got both hits for the hometown team; the first a first inning homer and the second a second inning dou- ble which scored the last Bedford tally.
Errors and walks hurt the Bishop cause and accounted for most of the
J. V. GAMES
V. E. S. vs. FLEETWOOD
The Baby Bishops opened the 1955 baseball season with a 5-0 loss to an older more experienced Fleetwood squad. The Baby Bishops with only four returning lettermen, we r e plagued by errors especially in the first inning when three runs were scored mainly because of errors. Carter, the Fleetwood pitcher, pitched three hit ball. Bishop hits were a double by David Hyer and singles by Childrey and Hall.
V. E. S. vs. APPOMATTOX
In the second game of the season the Jayvees baseball squad took the Appomattox J. Vs. 8-7 for the first win of the season. In this game the Jayvees were plagued by errors again but excellent pitching by Danny Payne and good hitting in spite of three Appomattox pitchers pulled the Baby Bishops through. Home runs by Grimes and McNulty aided the J. V. cause. In the last in- ning with men on second and third and one out Payne struck out the last two men-the last of which went
down on three pitched balls.
