Finals Dance Held in New Gym;
Mexican Theme Keynotes
Decorations
A new precedent was set in the social history of V.E.S. as the Finals Dance was held for the first time in the new gymnasium last Saturday night. The theme of the dance was "Mexican Fiesta" and it was ca rried out t o perfection. The entire over- head area was covered with multi- colored Spanish shawls, and the light- ing effects were achieved by large guitars lighted and mounted around the walls. Mexican sombreros were
strung along the sides at intervals be- tween the lighted guitars. A night club atmosphere was given by the tables on each side. In keeping with the theme, a sleeping peon was placed under a palm tree and a matador was striking a familiar pose.
The sweet strains of the Bob Cleve- land Band of Danville, Virginia, fur- nished the dancers, who were dressed in spotless white dinner jackets and forma l evening dresses, with the dance tempo. A t intermission, the V Club held their annual figure and carried it out very well. Mrs. Bates
came through as usual and provided the delicious refreshments of punch and cookies which were served from the kitchen adjoining the gym. After the last wonderful dance, everyone departed, all agreeing that it was the best dance ever held at V.E.S.

Lynchburg Rocked By Terrific Blast As Seniors Hold Annual Banquet
After a long, long afternoon of eager waiting, on the evening of May 25 a t six-thi rty, a blast was thrown. The Senior Banquet, Class o f 1955, took place at the Columns, which, oddly enough, accepted it even though Hunt had remodelled their furniture last year. In spite of the fact that no master would agree to come, all seniors toasted their favorite masters, then their favorite fellow seniors, then their favorite friends, then their less favorite friends, then their enem ies, then anything that oc- curred to them. The dinner, which was delicious, consisted of steak, french fries, et cetera (I won't torture you here) .
Then the seven iron men led us in the V. E. S. hymn (backwa rds and for- wards) and Keefer, in a rash moment, guaranteed dates for the whole senior class for Finals. After agreeing to give their meal coats as the Senior Class Gift, the group separated and migrated to various and sundry parts of town trying to make themselves forget about exams. They were suc- cessful.
A t approximately twelve o'clock, the Class of '55, having decided on only one thing-namely, that they had succeeded in making more noise than any class previous to that time- ran, walked, rode, drove, stepped, staggered, rolled, and crawled back to the Ole 160 to get a worm's eye view of the Master-in-Charge's shoe- laces, sign in, and be assisted to bed by their underclassmen roommates.
