Enthusiastic Crowd Greets
Local Talent in "Bishops Beserk,"
Directed by Mr. Lunsford
On Saturday, May 21 , some of the boys, directed by Mr. Lin Luns- ford, entertained the school with " Bishops Beserk," which was pre- sented in the new gym.
First of all, a real hot combo took the stage. The now-famous members were Cliffe Towe at the piano, Bobby Gillespie on the trumpet, Frank Hunt- ley on the trombone, and Frank Craig- hill on the drums. This is the first time in some years that V. E. S. has had such a group, and we are glad to see that interest is again develop- ing in this sort of thing.
Next on the program came a Minstrel act, featuring end men Judge Dillard and Sir Tim Camden, Boyd Kimball, Chip Wood, Lee Jen- kins, and Jay White. David Hyer acted as Master of Ceremonies and Interlocutor. The wit and comedy of thi s group livened up the audience.
After the minstrel act was an excel- lent solo by Barksdale Kizer and a quartet consisting of Barksdale Kizer, Bob Tyus, Ronny Turner, and Pat Mc- Nulty.
Following this singing was an inter- esting and mystifying magic act by Frisky Freyer. Another amazing ex- hibition was the ventriloquist act per- formed by Pat McNulty and Sparkie Stone.
Dick Shanklin then added to every- one's pleasure by an imitation of Liberace's playing which was very clever indeed.
When this fine act was over, the world premiere of Lin's Marionettes was enjoyed by the audience. This shrewd act was performed by Mike
Laurie, Arthur Delagrange, and Ted Harriss.
Credit must also be given to John Ward and Jim Bailey for their excel- lent work in stage managing and scene designing.
Mr. Lunsford himself deserves a great deal of credit and many thanks for the work and time which he gave to this play.
