The second half opened with a 65- yard scoring drive that took only eleven plays to cross the stripe. Joslyn drove through the Miller School line for the final six yards.
V. E. S. scored its final touch- down early in the fourth quarter, when substitute quarterback Sandy Cunningham intercepted a pass from Miller's Ramsey on the Bishops' 22 and ran the ball 15 yards to the 37-yard stripe. V. E. S. moved to the Miller 30-yard line in five plays, and then Cunningham connected with halfback Davidson for the final score.
When the game ended, V. E. S. had the ball on the Miller 30, where another touchdown was called back on a penalty.
BISHOPS BLAST MILLER IN 40-0 RUNAWAY
The Bishops chalked up their first football victory of the current sea- son as they downed Miller School 40-0 in a one-sided tilt on Johnson field.
The Bishops' quarterback, Johnny Kramer, directed the win as he passed, handed off, place kicked, and plunged the line, although he did not score a touchdown.
Three plays after receiving the opening kickoff, Skit Do v i d son snatched a Kramer pitchout and scooted 43 yards around left end for the first of his two touchdowns.
After regaining possession of the ball, fullback Bro. McClain crossed the goal line on the Bishops' second play, after carrying a screen pass 33 yards, but a penalty nullified the play- and the score. Two plays later, Ramsey took another pitchout around right end for 25 yards and a touch- down that counted.
Miller took over on downs after a penalty nullified a second V. E. S. score, but had to punt to Kramer on their 43, and the speedy quarterback moved to the 28 before he was brought down. Fullback Penn Joslyn hit the line for three plays, and the ball was on the one. On the next play, Co-captain L I o y d Horton plunged over for the score.
V. E. S. lost a touchdown to a backfield-in motion penalty after a 22 yard run by Halfback Bill Ramsey. On the next ploy, Kramer passed to

APPOMATIOX EDGES BISHOPS IN CLOSE OPENER
Appomattox, with a clutch touch- down in the fourth quarter, beat V. E. S. in its opening game.
The g a m e was full o f thrills b y both teams, but the Bishops were not able to stop the long passes of Appomattox.
The Bishops scored first on a pass from John Kramer to Penn Joslyn, after Bill Ramsey had set up the touchdown with a 65-yard run around right end.
Appomattox then drove 52 yards for their first tally climaxed by a pass from Ray Ferguson to end Toots Carter. Appomattox scored again in the second quarter with a pass from Freddie Mitchell to Car- ter.
In the third quarter V. E. S. tied the score with another 45-yard run by Ramsey around right end. V. E. S.'s third touchdown came when John Kramer threw a screen pass to Bro McClain.
At the start of the fourth quarter Dick Robinson got off a 60-yard punt t o t h e Bishops' one-yard line. Two plays later Appomattox pushed V. E. S. back into their end zone for a safety.
After receiving the Bishops' free kick, Appomattox started a 55-yard drive which was climaxed by a 25- yard pass from Freddie Mitchell to Ray Massie. Appomattox made the only extra point of the game; a pass f r o m Le a n E d m u n d s t o R a y F e r g u - son.
