JOHN PENN LEE
Four years ago, at the tender age of eleven, a roly-poly, tow-headed little boy wandered into V. t. S. from the metropolis of, you guessed it, Roanoke. The boy's real name was John Penn Lee, but he was soon
tabbed "General" ful uppercla~smen.
NELSON SHOWALTER
This year is Nelson 's third and final year at V. E. S. and during that time he has compiled an im- pressive record on the athletic field and in the classroom. Lettering in football his first year here, Nelson was known as one of the hardest tackling men on the field.
During Nelson's Junior year, he again repeated his fine performance in football and was duly elected sergeant-of-arms of the "V Club." Needing another man to hold down the ferocious second west dorm, the Faculty wisely elected Nelson a counselor, soon after school opened.
This year Nelson cleaned house as for as being head of the organiza- tion was concerned. He is the head- counselor, president of the "V Club," head-waiter, and Co-Captain of the varsity football team. These honors were justly awarded to a fine boy, as next year he will join his Roanoke
buddies on the spacious campus of U. Va.
ARCH TURNER ALLEN Ill
Ever so often a boy enters V. E. S. and shows enough maturity and leadership to be named to the Honor Committee his second year. Such a boy is Arch T. Allen from Raleigh.
"Arch T." enrolled at V. E. S. in his Junior year and was immediately labeled "Elvis" Allen for his lengthy sideburns.
J. V. basketball was Arch T.'s in- terest in the winter as the tall cen- ter was one of the mainstays of Mr. Wyatt's boys.

During "General's" second year at the "160" he worked his way up to J. V. football, but dropped to 13- and-under basketball.
"Gen's" third year at V. E. S. showed what it takes to be a well- rounded student. Besides having study out consistently, he played J. V. football. managed J. V. bas- ketball, Varsity track, later getting

was consistently high on the study out list and maintained a good av- erage with six subjects.
This year Arch T. will probably re- turn to the hardwood for the Varsity and has a good chancEl of lettering.
His dependability and friendliness will be remembered as he departs for "Heaven on Earth" (U. N. C.) next year.
