YES PLANTING COMMITTEE ENJOYS SUCCESS,
PLANS FOR MORE
Following a summer of alternating drought and superabundance of rain, it is good to report that, with very few exceptions, the planting done in the Spring under the guidance of the YES Planting Committee has flourish- ed. Those few plants which succumb- ed are being replaced by the nursery from which they were acquired, thus vindicating the Committee's use of professional service which guarantees its work and products.
In addition to replacement of lost plants, the Committee has recently put in some foundation planting at the gymnasium, relocated four or five boxwood plants at the Chapel, and is presently hard at work promoting the Lamar Garden. This garden, as was announced at the 1959 Finals, is to be placed between the gymnasium and Faculty Row in honor of the School's qreat friend and benefactor for whom the beautification of the campus has always been a cherished concern. To all alumni-as well as the present student body-who have en- joyed Mr. Lamar's hospitality through the media of lunches, birthday cakes, boxes of cookies, bushels of apples, and desserts on special occasion (as well as countless other evidences of his love for the boys and the School), here is an opportunitY' to say "thank you". The plans for the garden have been completed, Mr. Lamar has seen and approved them, and it remains only for the necessary funds to come pouring in for the Committee to swing into action. Checks may be made out to the YES Planting Com-
mittee, and mailed to Mrs. J. Lyons Davidson, 106 Woodland Avenue, Lynchburg, or to the School.
Last Spring at Finals many appre- ciative remarks were heard concern- ing the foundation planting around the Main Building and the Headmas- ter's house. There have been addi- tional compliments for the new walk-
