THE TRAVELING SCIENCE
LIBRARY COMES TO YES
The National Association for the Advancement of Science has loaneo to the school library two hundrec books. They come in four groups o fifty each at two month intervals. A of this is at no cost whatsoever tc the school, though these books are worth over eight hundred dollars. The only requirement is that the libraf'l
must keep a record of the names o· the people reading the books. This is so that the N. A. A. S. can evalu- ate the success of their program.
For any who are interested, Mr Wy•att has two groups of pamphlets One is a list of the two hundrea books in the series, and the other · a list of paperback books recom- mended by the N. A. A. S.
The second group will arrive the sixteenth of November. This group · thought to have an even more inter esting collection of books than those of the first group.

So far this y-ear there has been a disturbing absence of school spirit, notably at the varsity football games, but also evident elsewhere. A spirited team is by far the best team, but a team has a hard time being spirited when its supporters, if they may be called that, are relatively silent.
It is not solely the responsibility of the new boys to do all the yelling at a football or basketball game, in fact, far from it. The old boys, who outnumber the rats, have been here longer and should have more school spirit than the new boys, therefore they should be far louder than the first year students.
We also seem unable to yell and cheer unless we are in a group. There is no real reason for this other than a lack of school spirit. The thing to do is yell loud and long until those around you join in, if there are any around you. Just the same you should cheer if you have any school spirit, and if you don't have any school spirit, why did you come to the game, in fact, why did you come to the school?
The rats are, of course, expected to yell continually until the game is over or they lose their voices. This should be true for every boy at YES,

but unfortunately it is not. Not only do the old boys refrain from cheering vociferously, but the rats are allowed to sit quietly in many cases. How can we expect the new boys to have school spirit if they see that no old boys have it?
The point of this article should be clear. Here's hoping t h a t every'One makes up for their lost spirit in the coming basketball season. Even if we are losing by fifty points, let's yell like we were ahead by that same margin.
