BISHOPS DROP HOMECOMING GAME TO EPISCOPAL HIGH
The Bishops, outclassed by a sharp EHS team, lost the ir 1959 Home- coming game, 35-0, before a large
crowd of alumni, students, and visitors.
Fighting every inch of the way, the Bishops were unable to hold off the tremendous ground-and-air attack of the Maroons.
The YES t e a m , w hic h ha s been plagued with injuries all year, went into the game with stellar ha lfback Bev flutter nursing an injured leg. Then, in the first quarter, fullback Tom Parker, star of the Miller School game, dislocated his shoulder and was lost for the rest of the game as well as the season.
Without two of their backfield aces, the Bishops were unable to sus- tain a drive. Filling in for the injured Bishops were Dan Erwi n, Brian Walk- er, and Lanny Pratt. Each of them did a very good job.
FIGHTING BISHOPS LOOK FORWARD TO A BIG SEASON IN 1960
The 1959 edition of the football Bishops was certainly not an excep- tionally great one, although it had several potential stars. Their record was t wo wins and six losses, with three of these losses being to arch- rivals W oodbe rry Forest, St. Chris- topher's, and Episcopal High School, all much larger schools than YES.
The '59 t e am was injury-ridde n from early practice to the final game. The Bishops were never able to put their best eleven men on the field at one time.
But the Bishops never gave up. They kept fighting until the last sec- ond of every game. If they keep this same spirit next year, they will have quite a team.
The top three running backs, Or- gain, Hutter, and Parker, will all be back. So will several other experi- enced players such as Barber, Basten, Erwin, Freeman, Johnson, Harrison, Anderson, Manning, Goodwin, Gray, Luther, Pratt, and Vaughan and others. In all nearly twenty lettermen will don Bishop uniforms next year.
This is one season when the Bish- ops' supporters can say in earnest, "Wait till next year!"
