RICHARD GREEN COWPER KINSTON, N. C.
Richard Green Cowper is in his fourth and final year at his favorite school. Since his arrival, he has contributed in many ways to the lives of his fellow students. An example: the more-than-three hundred hours he put into the im- provement of the school's baseball diamond, a diamond that is surpassed by no high school playing field in the state.
Rich has represented VES in football, soccer, and baseball. After showing a great deal of promise as a pitcher, he was convinced baseball was the only sport for him. Fall and winter seasons have served as warm-ups for the big spring sport. This fall Richard headed-up-the entire off-season base- ball program.
His greatest interest, however, is his popular eastern Carolina combo, "The Sunsetters." Even though they operate without their lead guitar player a good part of the year, they are still considered one of the up-and-coming groups in the state.
Perhaps Richard's greatest favor to his classmates has been his photography work - pictures for mothers, fathers, and girl friends. The editors of both school publications have repeatedly praised his work and his dedication.
In the realm of studies, Rich has consistently been among the ranking members of his class. With all his extra-curricu- lar activities, a great deal of work was necessary to compile such a fine scholastic record.
The University of North Carolina is Richard's choice for college. He will undoubtedly distinguish himself in the big school, as he has in the small one.
