Defeats Father Judge J04-65 •
BISHOPS SPORTING 3-2 RECORD
The varsity basketball team over- whelmed the returning alumni team in their annual game here. It was the Varsity all the way, led by Bob Peter-
son and Randy Longworth. Bill HaiTi- son sparked the Alumni.
The Bishops were downed 68-54 by Collegiate in the first game of the season. YES led early in the first quar- ter, but Collegiate pulled ahead grad- ually and maintained their lead for most of the game. The Bishops came
shortly after the second half be- . gan, but again the Cougars retained ·r growing lead. Lack of height was
main disadvantage, and the Bishops also bothered with a large num- of fouls. Bob Peterson and Randy
•nrt·h, the two forwards, netted
points a piece. Dan Johnson started center, and \Vooty Peebles and
Van Noppen were the guards.
On December 9, the Bishops upset once-beaten Tigers from \Vood-
Forest by a score of 55 to 52. Randy Longworth led the polished
with 23 points while pulling 7 rebounds. Randy teamed with other forward, Bob Peterson, who 'P.rl 20 points and had 9 rebounds. was followed by Hays Van with 6 and Dan Johnson and
Peebles each with 3 points. Tigers' top scorer was Roby Pur-

Peterson fired in 6 of the Bishops'
10 first-quarter points. Longworth supplemented with nine points in the second quarter which increased the lead to 6 at the half. In the third quarter, despite Peterson's 8 points, the Bishops lead was cut to one point. With 4Jf minutes left to go in the game the Tigers took a commanding 5 point
lead. Then, under an 8-point streak by Longworth, the Bishops came back to win in the closing seconds.
YES may have a smaller team this year, but Coach Bobby Lynch is pleased with the hustle of the team
and the sharpshooting of Peterson, who connected on 50% of his shots against Collegiate.
Randy Longworth led the Bishops to a 104-65 victory over the team from Father Judge by scoring 31 points himself, and he was the first to break the 100 point mark for YES. Steve Shelton and L ynch Christian proved themselves invaluable by netting 18
points apiece. Wooty Peebles counted for 12; Bob Peterson, who had just recovered from an illness, scored 11,
and co-captain Dan Johnson netted 7. Starter Tom Smyth and Hayes Van
Noppen got 5 and 2 points re~pec tively.
The Bishops got off to a slow start, but they roared through the second half and overwhelmed Father Judge with a volley of baskets and with com- plete control of the boards.

Tigers Take Revenge On Flu-Ridden Bishops
On January 20, Woodberry Forest avenged an earlier defeat at the h?nds
of the Bishops as they defeated YES by a score of 72-57.
The Bishops, hit hard earlier by the Hu bug were not up to par as they played a fired-up Tiger team on their
own court.
Leading the Bishops with 15 points
was Randy Longworth. Bob Peterson
with 13, Dan Johnson with 10, Steve Shelton with 7, and Lynch Christian,
Wooty Peebles, and H~s Van Nap- pen with 4 rounded out the Bishops'
scoring effort.
The Tiger quintet was led by Glen
Purrington with 26 points. Woodberry shot 44 percent from the floor to YES' 35 percent while the Bishops outshot
the Woodberry team from the foul line 82 percent to 64 percent.
The defeat left the Bishops with a 2-2 record in the Prep School League
competition .
