English Characterized By Composition Writing
And Literature Study
Whether the subject of literature being dealt with was the thorough reading of
Death of a Salesman or the application of
the basic characteristics of essays,
the English Department placed even greater stress on the study of creative writing
and the comprehension of printed works.
Much time was devoted to drafting imaginative and sound compositions, and students were subjected to much more intensive reading than last year.
In assigning more reading,
teachers urged the students to study
the finer points of the works by paying
closer attention to the inner meanings and symbolism involved.
With the cooperation of
Messrs. DeHart, Jones, Hudnall, and Scholl,
Mr. Hopkins again headed the program.
