Varsity Basketball Shows Great Strength,
Height, And Speed
Expected to be the strongest team in recent years, the 1969-70 Varsity Basketball team, coached by Mr. Lynch, expressed much optimism about
the season. The necessities of height, speed, and stamina were
all evident in the team, and excellent shooters and rebounders proved to strengthen it even more.
Possibly the greatest advantage for the team was the fact that talent was spread throughout rather than centered around one or two stars.
The starting five, led by senior co-captains Bob Peterson and Neal Partrick.
were fortunate to be backed up by strong reserve players as well, many of whom
were underclassmen.
The long arm of Parker Lumpkin reaches out to knock the ball from the hands of a leaping Holy Cross player.
Charlie Merritt goes up for a quick jump shot despite the attempts of two opponents to rush in and block it.
