~ked the Priest what the Catho- lic Church thought about abor-
t~on. His reply was the under no cJ.rcumstanees was 1 woman to have an abortion except when childbirth endangered the life or
the mother. Then the question of "What is religion?" was put to aU three church leaders. The Rabbi went briefly through the religion of Judaism, and then Mr. Bauer and the Priest gave their views. We concluded from this discus- sion that all three faiths had their similarities centering in
the belief in one God.
After a dinner. which would
have made the rest of the V.E.S. community envious, the Rabbi showed us around the Synagogue and told us about the most sacred object there: the sacred scrolls. They were writ· ten in Hebrew and some dated as far back as 200 years ago. The
Rabbi read a passage to us in Hebrew, translated it, and then explained how the scrolls were printed.
Finally we talked about how to get more people interested in this sort of conference. I enjoyed the experience, and I am sure that the other students did, too. In the future I hope that more V.E.S. students will attend these inter-denominational meetings, because they are one way dif· ferent people can grow to understand and respect each other.
