working from four o'clock to six
o'clock every night preparing for
a tough Norfolk team the 8th of December. Coach Kiefer is deter-
mined to win this match after last year's tie, 24 to 24.
This year the Varsity Team appears very strong in certain weights, but due to injury,
Howard Moye will not be able to
wrestle until late in the season.
Other weights are still undecid- ed;132 could !50to Christian Con-
nell of Brad Essman. It will be a tough elimination match to decide who will wrestle that
weight. 119 will probably go to Sophomore Jim Bowden because Kevin Connell has decided to
wrestle 126.
Some members of the Varsity
Team traveled to Bedford to scrimmage Liberty High School.
The team /dominated the Minutemen. Marshall Mcguffin showed much promise while wrestling the big men of Liberty
as did the rest of the team. Th~ team has also been invited to a tournament in New Jersey the
15th and 16th of December. Mr. Kiefer says that the team will .
return with the big victors trophy.
Mr. Kiefer decided to split up practice-s and work wi,th the Var- sity to get the more technical moves in preparation for the up coming matches.
Mr. Kiefer and the team are determined to give the school a dynamic season. The VES in- habitants are urged to attend the
home matches and cheer the grapplers to victory.

J .V. Soccer
by Benbury Wood
J .V. Soccer started in training on Tuesday, November 27. The team consists of roughly twenty
members, coached by Mr. Calvert and Mr. Mundy.
The coaches are teaching the players the basic skills of dribbl- ing, passing, and s.hielding. These skills, if performed effec- tively, will help the team im- mensely in its season this year.
Mr. Mundy says the team has a fine nucleus around which to build. Some of the members have
played soccer in previous years, and for others the game is a new experience. The sucess of the season depends on how much ef-
fort the members are willing to put forth. So far everyone has been doing well in practice, and they are all looking forward to the first game on December 11.

J.V.'swarm-up for first game.

by Skipper Hines
With the basketball season
here and the Freshman basket- ball team's first game almost here, Mr. Garmey and Mr. Wilson are working hard trying to get their team in good condi-
tion.
Mr. Wilson is a new addition to
the coaching staff of the Freshman basketball team. He graduated from Fisk University and is an exceptionally good
basketball player and coach.
It is a small team, but has a lot of speed and a lot of spirit. The only tall players are Parker Hale
and Sam Greenwood, but we have some good jumpers like Hunter Barrow, Rom Jenkins
and the Morton twins. The other players on the team are Garth Ainslie, Rich Leary, Jay Bram- mer, Ashby W atts, Robert High, and Skipper Hines.
Their first game is not far off and they are working hard to get ready for it. They look like ·a fine
basketball team and will hopeful- ,
ly have a good season.
