The History Department at VES teaches Government, Economics, U.S. History, and European History. B.K. Mundy, Alec Evans, and Malcolm Douglas teach Govern- ment to the tenth grade, and Peyton Elliott and Doug Smith join Mr. Evans in teaching U.S. History to the juniors. Mr. Elliott, who teaches the A.P. section of U.S. History, also teaches the elective in Economics, and Mr. Mundy and Mr. Smith, the department Chairman, teach European History to the twelfth grade.
The heart of the History Department is the "Core Pro- gram" in both U.S. and European History. The "Core Pro- gram", taught in the junior and senior years, emphasizes not only historical data, but also art, literature, composition and research. The History Department hopes to develop the "Core Program" further, as well as to add electives, particu- larly in geography.
