This year's Varsity Lacrosse
tt>am finis~ed with a disappoin- ting record of 5-7. They placed ninth in the state and missed get-
ting into the 'TILT' tournament by two goals.
The Bishops' best perfor- n:mraances were against Christ
Church, Blue Ridge and Albemarle. The team had much more talent than in previous years; some of the outstanding players were: Fourd Kemper,

This year's track team,though
scorer, who had an excellent• quick stick and was an ag-· gressive rider, Cliff Shroeder, who led the team in overall scor-
ing and was a fine leader on the field and John Little, who was definitely one of the best defen- · sive players in the state. Thorn
Rhoads performed admirably in his first year as varsity goalie. Looking towards next year, the team needs to develop an effec- tive offensive against the better
defensive teams in the league; when this happens, the Bishop laxmen will certainly surprise a
lot of people next year.

beating every Prep League team
By Mike Cozzens
If one word were used to sum
up this years varsity baseball team it would have to be disap- pointing. Coming off last years season -2nd in the prep league the Bishops, under the leader-
ship of Captain Joe Maxwell and Jamie Sligh, had a 7-5 record. Even with the consistent batting of Joe Maxwell, Chad Smith, Jamie Sligh and Hunt Whithead, VES wasn't able to achieve the success everyone expected. It should be noted that Joe, Chad, Jamie and Hunt were four of the top 10 batters in the prep league.
Errors played a key role in the season allowing the_opponents
many unearned runs. Hunt Whitehead was quoted as say-
ing, "We should have won alot more games than we did."

John Foster's 1986 varsity,
tennis team finished the season with a 6-6 record and came in a struggling seventh place in the prep-league tournament.
The seeds for this year's team were 1) Charles Davis, 2) Rick Gayle 3) Kirk Gilleland, 4) John
Foster Jr., 5) Billy Niese and 6) Alexander Boone. The team played very hard all season long
despite their even record.
On May 18 and 19 the team traveled to Richmond to play in the prep-league tournament.
Charles Davis won the consola- tion in his division, by beating players from Woodberry and Norfolk Academy in the finals.
Rick Gayle and Kirk Gilleland played tough throughout the tournament but lost in the finals. Alexander Boone won his divi-

Coach Bloor noted that this team was very young and nearly everyone is returning next year, including George, Rash, Bran- don, Gordon and Battle. The future looks bright for the track
team and with a few more run- ners the Bishops would be
unstoppable.

TENNIS
J .V. Tennis this season had a
disappointing 1 9 record. Coach Brown attributes most of their problems to the injuries and absences of key players. For these reasons, the team rarely had a full lineup and could not
turned in by Mike George, who
finished 2nd in the intermediate
hurdles and 3rd in the high termediate hurdles, and set a hurdles, and Brian Rash, who new school record in the triple
