AB I reflect on this past school year, generally I think it was a good one. The change of the school going co-ed was successful. Being one of the first girls in the school I can say most of the students and faculty were friendly upon our auivjl}. Of course in the beginning, not everyone was receptive of the change. Some
male students resented the change in tradition, the so called special privledges the girls received. Among the seniors some were bitter that girls were accepted because no males were admitted as new students in their senibr year.
Among the seniors we all felt the nounal pressures ofthe amount of school work, applying to colleges and anxiously awaiting for the replies. And looking forward to graduation and the senior party.

The 1986-87 school year at VES has been very promising. The addition of woman, a new doun, and a new outlook of our campus; the school is definitely on the upswing.
I feel there are a few activities in the school community that have
made this year a positive one. Take for instance, athletics. The
athletic seasons at VES has been very good this year. We have had
several prep-league contenders in various sports. The campus has
also improved considerably. We have a new doun, a new half
cirlce driveway, a beautiful landscape in the front of school. I feel
the attitude around campus has alos changed considerably since the addition of the girls.
The faculty, old boys, and even working staff half been in a more positive mood this year. It's kind of different from last year but I
think is super.
V.E.S. is a wonderful institute. If the board and headmaster
continue to build the school up financially I feel it has the potential to be one of the top boarding schools in the South and even on the
east coast.
This school year was truly a "pioneer year" at V.E.S. with the
dawn of coed~cation, rr..any of the physical aspects of the campus
were greatly Improved and modified, however the social situation
remained about the same. The males seemed to get along with the females, and as such, no real problems arose there.
