GIRL'S SOCCER
Coach Foster watches Julia Lynn as she sets up for a kick.
In the third year of girls' soccer at VES, the performance of the team has improved nicely each year. With no victories and one tie in the first year to one win in the second year to three wins and two ties this year, the team, led by Captains Amy Ziemba and Julie Takacs, has done a fine job in building a reputation respected by our opponents.Every year the number of goals scored has improved. This is the first year the team has made it past the first round and into the semi-finals of the • L.I.S. tournament, only to loose 3-0 in that game to the soon to be League Champions. During the season, Anica Walston scored the highest number of goals(4), two of them second-half game winners. In only three of our thirteen games did we allow our opponents to score more than three goals, a fine reflection
on our strong defense comprised of Amy Ziemba, Julie Takacs, Sarah Ennis, and goalie Tory Bredell. Tamara Sprouse dominated midfield with the help and hard work of Aris Jones and Julia Jackson. Our front line of Julie Faulk, Kim Gay, Anica Walston, and Julia Lynn created many scoring opportunities, and did a com- mendable job of keeping us competitive. Versatile players such as Christian Lewis, Corene Miles, Louise Jenkins, Jennifer Crews, and Jenny Jebo allowed us to maintain pressure throughout the games. Amy Ziemba won the Coach's Award for her steady leadership and years of dedication to the soccer team. Tamara Sprouse • won MVP for her exemplary talent in controlling midfield and her enviable range and endurance. Tory Bredell won the Spirit Award for the contagious spark she provided. The team was coachable, cooperative, and they exhibited a high degree
of enthusiasm.
