 BREADTH AND DEPTH
The relationship between a boy and his teachers is the fundamental building block of a St. Albans education.
The small class sizes, diverse teaching styles, and trust that exist in our classrooms allow a student the freedom to challenge himself and to step out of his comfort zone so that he may learn and grow. We offer a rigorous curriculum that seeks to develop in each student a breadth as well as a depth of knowledge. As students progress through high school, a wide-ranging elective system builds on and refines the knowledge and skills that have been taught in the core classes offered by each department.
St. Albans offers coeducational opportunities through its long-standing coordinate program with the National Cathedral School for girls. This academic, athletic, and artistic partnership — which begins in the Lower School and expands through Upper School — allows our students to benefit from coeducation, while receiving every advantage of a single-sex environment.
“The purpose of language is to
communicate, and while passion,
creativity, and style are its spirit,
all writing should be coherent, well
developed, well organized, and
grammatically sound. These are
the fundamental requirements of
effective and persuasive writing." DONNA DENIZÉ, ENGLISH DEPARTMENT CHAIR
“From the biology lab to the history class, the litmus test for incorporating new technologies is, ‘Does this tool improve students’ ability to learn
or a teacher’s ability to reach a
child?’ Teachers embrace creative technologies not because they are ‘cool’ or new but because they enrich the education we provide."
DAWN BERKELEY, EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY COORDINATOR
