Experiment
In December of 2018, Director of Leadership Giving, Katie Magee
Thiemann ‘81, met with a husband and wife – she was a Cor
Jesu alumna, he graduated from another St. Louis Catholic high
school – together, they were longtime generous donors. They
had just stepped out of another meeting in which they were
discussing Catholic education and accessibility, lamenting the
fact that CJA couldn’t claim to meet 100 percent of its families’
financial needs. The school didn’t have the resources.
“But what if you could?” he asked.
“What do you mean, ‘What if we could?’” Katie responded.
The couple proposed their idea: What if, for one class,
they promised to cover 100 percent of each student’s
calculated financial need across all four years?
A parent who might have sheltered a qualified daughter from applying
for fear of disappointment would be more open to the possibility.
