                                                                         UPPER SCHOOL

                                                       Fierce  competition  raged  right  up  until  the  final  question  as  the
                                                       SES Math Team of Peter Zheng, Nishanth Chalasani, Zane Zudans
                                                       and Lei Zhang finished first out of over 20 schools in the IRSC Math
                                                       Olympiad last spring.


                                                       Mrs. Stephenson and Dr. Bao took 17 Upper School students to
                                                       The Gulliver School in Miami to participate in the 11th Annual Florida
                                                       State  Chinese  competition  in  February.  Students  were  tested
                                                       individually on reading,  writing, and speaking skills, and each school
                                                       participated in a group "Jeopardy" cultural event test. Our Pirates
                                                       came in second in the four team group. As part of the competition
                                                       weekend, Dr. Bao won the South Florida Chinese Educator of the
                                                       Year Award.

                                                       Social media becomes an experiment: It started as a quick question
                                                       in Ms. Kennedy's English class. That question became a conversation,
                                                       and the conversation evolved into a social media experiment. A total

     Cooper Beckett,                                   Scholar athlete Zach Alerte was honored as the 2016-2017 Benedict
     Barrett Rhymes and                                Scholar. Zach is an accomplished soccer player and dedicated student
     Ritter Marchant                                   and this prestigious honor recognizes his accomplishments.
                                                       Last  April,  the  2016  Cum  Laude  members  and  the  final  NHS
                                                       member were inducted into their societies.The inductee for NHS was
                                                       Autumn Meadows. The Cum Laude inductees were Fahad Ahmed,
                                                       Nishanth Chalasani, Kishore Chundi, Mason Heim, Grace Kahle,
                                                       Josh Hurwitz, David Stork and Taylor Tee.


                                                       Congratulations to Olivia Lazorik, Ellie Huryn, Sana Shareef and
                                                       Rachel Todd Gambee for their musical performances at the District
                                                       13 Solo & Ensemble Festival, held in Port St. Lucie.


                                                       Every SES student who participated in the state level of the Science
                                                       Fair competition placed in their respective categories. Congratulations
                                                       to  Olivia  Lazorik,  Jacob  Chesley,  Elise  Mallon,  Clara  Martin,
                                                       Christopher Powell, Sana Shareef, Omar Shareef, Lauder Fairchok
                                                       and David Todd Gambee on their exceptional results.
                                                       Seniors Cooper Beckett, Barrett Rhymes and Ritter Marchant took
                                                       top honors for the second year in a row at the Entrepreneur's Club
                                                       competition. Their product, called "Stickn'Go,” keeps fishing flies
                                                       organized and tangle-free.
