On Wednesday, September 25th, the school was formally openeJ hy Dr. Jett. He made a short address of welcome to both th<' old and new boys, and then opened their year's
work with a prayer.
:Many familiar faces are missing this year hom both the
faculty and the students. Dr. Jett and :Mr. Nelson were the only members of the facnlty to return. :Messrs Tucker, Geroultl, and Uarris have entered the National Army. Mr. lli.leuw.u is likewise serving Uncle Sam by working for the Du Pont Chemical and Powder Co.
We huve, however, in Mr. Barth, 1Y1r. Crockett, :Mr. Mat- field, and :Mr. Leland >ery able men to fill t.heir vacancies. Those whose absence among the student body will be felt
most keenly a1·e: Ruffin, Dillard, G., Oaskie, Kemper, lGnuier, Cowli11g, BolJ and Paul He.vdenrcich, Davis, and Frecmnu. All these boys haYe either entered higher seats of le:nning, or have joined some branch ot the U. S. service.
Ou Thursday evening, September 26th, the old boys met
aud elected the following boys to the Executive Board o£ the
Genf'ral Athletic Association: H. 0. Dillu:rd, H. F.
Whitaker, S. R. McCulloch, and Ben Smith. l.1r. Nelson
was elected faculty adviser.
Ou September 30th a meeting of the G. A. A. was held to
elect officers. The elections follow:
ll. C. Dillard, president; B. Smith, vice-president;
S. R. )fcCulloch, treasUl'er; and IT. F. Whi.b\ker, secretary.
