Since a consiClerable portion of the past season's squad will be available for the next, under tho experienced leadership of Captain-elect I.oth the re,·cr.ses of this year ought to be but the foundations of considerable snccess in 1!>22.
In this spo1't, too, a great amount of second and junior team work was done. This playing, coming as it docs in tho rather dead winter time, demands all the energy and atten- tion that can be given to its proper and efficient directing.
Track has furnished perhaps the greatest sporting success of the session. To our credit fall victories o,·er Roanoke, the high school champions of the state, and Lynchburg High. The later victory to the score of 82-lG was particularly over- whelming, and thereby all the more satisfying.
We came out second to Woodberry in the triangular meet between W. F. E., Stuveysaut, and V. E. S.; and at the interscholastic meet at Virginia our squad did more effectiYe work than ever before. The distance 1·unning of Adkins and Buckner's jumping wel'o the outstanding features of the season, though the whole team consistently gave hard, effi- cient service.
The success of the track season is in large measure the fn~it of the last two years' faithful work on the part of Ur. Tucker. With his departure, consequently, this sport will suffer a considerable loss. There will, however, be a large portion of this year's squad for use next session, which, with the great amount of excellent junior material in school,
should give Darst, the cheerful leader of next year's team, a succ~sful season.
A considerable number of the smaller, younger boys re- ceived training in track this year, mnny of whom give great promise of future de;·elopmeut. Their work was rewarded by our sending a junior relay team to the University to com- pete with the W. F. S. juniors. An even more satisfactory reward came later when they were "dined and showed" in town.
