way and Jrlr. Bond to Coach Squad On Tuesday, February 28, the V.
E. S. baseball aspirants· began prac- tice. Although the outlook for this year is not as good as tl1at of last year, still an excellent team may be developed under t h e tutelage of coaches Gannaway and Bond.
There are three letter-men back, namely: Captain Luck, Barber, and
Turner, and around these three a good team should be built. Luck, who played center field last year, also did some pitching and is booked to show great stuff on the mound this year. Barber played great ball at
second base last year and should add to his previous performance this year also. The team will have a good back- stop in Turner who is a nice hitter.

The V. E. S. Whites defeated the
V. E. S. Garnets in soccer 4-2 on Johnson field, F ebruary 10. The game was played in very muddy con- ditions due to recent rains, much to
Whitehead's distress.
The Soccer Committee of Lynch-
burg attended the game to pick play- ers for the all-city team. They chose Hines, halfback, Glascock, fullback, and Lamb, outside forward, all of the Whites, for the team. The goals
against the Whites were made by Kreis, a Swiss, who was brought out for a tryout.
Holy Cross was defeated for the second time by the Whites, 3-0. Holy Cross won the cup last year. Alston,

Of the new boys Lee, at shortstop, seems to be the outstanding. He played for Shenandoah Valley Acad- emy last year and from general re-
port should be a hard hitter as well as no mean fielder. Armstrong is another good candidate for the in- field or the mound, having played s·andlot baseball, before his appear- ance here.
