Baby Bishops, City Champions
The \'. E. S. "Baby Bishops" won the Lynchburg City League championship in the 130-lb. class after going through the 1944 foot- ball season undefeated and untied. Coached by Mr. i\Iilton, and cap-
tained by Dan Bell, the lightweights displayed co-ordination a n d team- work that any college team would have been proud of.
Bobby W est, playing halfback, was the defensive star of the team. and also shined in running the hall. "Biach" Trevathan and Tedch· (;ihson- were two able runners who carried the mail far for the Baby Bishops. Val Stieglitz passed re- peatedly to John Page and F ra':lcis .\leired for long gains. was selected by the coaches of the teams. The four were Bobby West and Blacky T reYathan, backs; Jack ~Iatthews, tackle; and J ohn Page, end. On the second-string team, the Baby Bishops placed two. John Hync. center. and Jim l\foore, tackle.
V. E. S. PlacesTwo on All-State
For the second straight year, St. Christopher's was represented by seven players on the official all-State preparatory school team selected by coaches.
V. E. S. contributed two players on the all-star selection, \Voodberry Forest and Alexandria's E. II. S. one each.
Tailback Lynn Chewning, Quar- terback Barrye (Bo) Wall and Tackle Jonathan Jenkins, all of St. Christopher's were the only repeat-
ers. Chewning has been on the team three years in succession.
