BOY SCOUTS
Air Scouts
The V. E. S. Air Scout Squadron 7 is climaxing its first year of exist- ence with the actual flight instruc- tion of the four most promising scouts. Charles Cardwell leads with two hours in the air to his credit, fol- lowed closely by S c o t t Tay!or with an hour and a half, and Crawford MacCallum with a half hour. Chick Carter will begin his dual instruction soon.
Besides the flight instruction be- gun recently, other courses taken up bythe scouts hove been a study of the Civil Air Regulations and of Air Naviqation. The "Junior Birdmen" olso have a valuable assemblage of aeronautics equipment procured from war-surplus supplies. This equip- ment includes a turn and bank indica- tor, a rate of climb indicator, an alti- meter, a directional gyro, and a gyro horizon. The pride of the troop, how- ever, is a Kenner engine of 160 h. p., which is also used in weekly lectures and instruction.
The inception of the Air Scout Squadron at V. E. S. is due to the Rev. Morshall M. Milton, school chaplain, who is the squadron leader and in- structor. Mr. Milton has done a fine
job of shaping up the club, and in preparing its members for the com- ing air age.
