was before. He is the manager of the airports at Williamsburg, Va., and Newport News, Va., besides being a preacher. Mr. Milton can't preach a person t o heaven he'll fly him there.
Mr. Ellsworth Phelps and Mr. John W . Gannaway are teaching math here at V. E. S. Besides plane geom- etry Mr. Phelps is now instructing physics to the school's would be Ein- steins, and Mr. Gannaway is still beating solid into the thick skulls of the students. He is usually seen guarding his beloved baseball field. Miss Elizabeth Phelps is t he sweet- heart of every boy here at school and is doing very well for a young lady four years old.
Up in Alexandria, Va., Mr. H. T. Holladay is a much better dorm Master because he ca n now hear no1se. He's teaching at Episcopal High School. Near the same town Uncle Phil Dawson, who is running a tourist court, is still pinching pennies but not nearly as hard because his daughter Virginia is married. Our
football team stayed at his establish- ment, the Penndaw, on the way to play E. H. S. The service was fine.

An Important Factor
De~~r Mr. Gannaway:
... It was good to get the news in your
letter about the school and to learn that we now hove o couple of good new coaches. My impression has been that V. E. S. has not done too well, athletically speaking, in the last few years. I hope that the athletic prowess of V. E. S. is on the upswing. The athletic reputation of the school, I realize, is not the most important achievement of o well-rounded program of athletics, but on the other hand it is o foetor not to be ignored. It is ideal if on athletic program con be used to help mold the character of young men and at the some time to pro- duce good teams. And by o good team, I do not necessarily mean o team that wins every game, but rather o team that ploys the game well and gives o good account of itself in the contest. No one con be ashamed of such o team. Needless to soy such teams
