Slave Labor
Working under the cruel whip of Mr. Gilliam, the 4-F squad has man- aged to store all of the bleachers and benches used on Johnson Field dur- ing the football season. These bleach- ers were dismantled on the field and carried by truck to the garage where they will remain until next fall. The boys not out for basketball compose the 4-F squad. They do many useful jobs about school.
On the bleacher job "Ten Ton" Herman Thompson and "Meatball" Wills were used to keep the bleachers weighted down on the back of the sc~ool truck. The truck is operated by W1ddy Fennell who, because of his long experience with tricycles and bi- cycles, was chosen for this job. Since the boys worked in shifts, those not working played a game of cards. No money was passed but it is rumored that Mebane lost all his desserts for the next two months. While the bleachers were being packed in the garage, Paul Taylor and Hal Jackson performed aerial acrobatics off the roof of the building.
The Goats
A small group of pain wracked in- dividuals were seen staggering around school a few weeks ago. These poor creatures were the boys who were lucky (?) e n o u g h t o win t h e i r first varsity letter. After a hard season of playing that child's game of football, they were eligible to join the V-Ciub. The names on the list of goats were: Tom my Battle, Cullen Bradley, Brown Finch, Tommy Hassard, Leonard Muse, John Watts, and John Thomas.
THE SCHOOL
Little did the boys realize what they were in for.
For two long days and nights they were forced to obey the slightest whims of their ruthless masters. Shin- ing shoes, running errands, and (cen- sored) were a few of their chores. No task was too hard or too bad for the goats.
After going through a number of secret rites, they finally completed the ordeal and resumed the status of normal human beings.
V. E. S. Hep Cats
Miss Floyd Ward has begun her an-
nual dancing lessons here at school. Thirty-five boys were enrolled by her V. E. S. representative, Bill Beach. In- struction is in the gym every Satur- day night from eight until ten. Aft e r Christmas the lessons will be every other Saturday night. The instruction is in ballroom dancing with some jiv- ing. Some of the Lynchburg girls are invited to each meeting by Miss W ard.
On the night of December IIth, a Christmas dance was given from 8:30 until I I:00, and refreshments were served. This is the first of a series of dances put on by the V: E. S. club.

Immediate results of the plan to
enlarge V. E. S. were seen during the Thanksgiving Holiday. If one had looked through the empty halls, he would have seen two young men hard at work. They were an architect and
his helper from the firm of Pendleton Clark. These gentlemen, surrounded by plans, T squares, and triangles, were busy taking measurements for the plans needed to begin work on the school. Undoubtedly the Board of Trustees meant business when they decided to renovate the school.
The floor of the gym was varnished for the coming basketball season. This will keep the floor in good shape while the winter sports are underway.
