Meetings No. I
On February 17th, at Alumni Hall
of the University of Virginia, a meet- ing of the Charlottesville Alumni and V. E. S. boys who are now at the University met with Mr. Gannaway for the purpose of organizing a Chapter of the Alumni A ssociation . The meeting was well attended and the enthusiasm shown was genuine. Everybody wanted to know all about the work that has been done here at school during the past year. George Barlow and Billie Duke did a good job of contacting the boys and we thank
them for their efforts. After recalling many interesting and sometimes em- barrassing experiences during their V. E. S. days, the following officers we-re elected: President, Billie Duke and Geo rge Barlow received a tie voteĀ·and on a second ballot, the re- sult was unchanged, so they drew for President and Vice-President. Duke was the winner, so George is V-P. Sec retary-Treasurer is John B. Hop- kinson, the second boy to enroll in
V. E. S.
The purpose of these meetings is to renew the interest that might have lagged because of lack of contact with the school. The alumni can render a great service to a school in the way of enrollment and contributing to some activity of the school.
There were several of the alumni who could not attend this meeting fo r it was called on very short notic e. We hope that those who were not present will see one of the officers and get their names on the list and attend the next meeting that will be called for the purpose of adopting a Constitution and By-Laws.

On February 9th, in the new lounge room in the main building , a meeting of the Lynchburg Alumni was called to order by Mr. Gannaway who is acting as Alumni Secretary. After stating the purpose of the or- ganization, he called for an election of officers. The following were elected: President, Frewen Wilson; Vice-President, Robert I. Owen; Secretary-Treasurer, Peyton Winfree, Jr., Dr. George L. Barton, Head- master and Mr. Jo Banks, Senior Master, were asked to speak.
After the business was finished, many of the boys began to swap tales of their experiences while t hey were here at school. The demerit track, Imp Period and the rising bell came in for some discussion as did columns. By the way, there are no more columns.
Sandwiches prepared by Mrs. Bates, the dietician, and coca-colas furni shed by Bruce Thompson were enjoyed. There was only one bottle o pener in the whole crowd.
The group was then taken on a tour of the dormitories and the new gym as well as the new kitchen. Some of them had not seen all these im- provements. They tried to pick out their old bunks but that was rather difficult under the present arrange- ment. .
Several alumni were out of town or for business reasons could not at- tend the meeting but have expressed the desire to add their names to the roll that was taken that night. The school appreciates the enthusiasm shown at the meeting and this will be used as a start for the organiza- tion of similar chapters in other cities where there are groups of V. E. S. boys. It is desired that alumni in other places organize a chapter and

"Over the Years"
The post of Head Counselor is of such commanding importance that long ago I conceived the idea of getting together in c hronological order a roster of all those who had held this position througho ut the his- tory of Virginia Eptscopal School. For my personal edification I wanted a record, accurate and dependable. Now that I have what I hope is such a roster, it occurs to me that others might like a copy of it. Therefore I am submitting it to The Meteor.
But it literally has taken months- actually over a year-to ascertain some few data for such a roster. Many years ago I had requested cer- tain older masters to list the Head Counselors up to that time. The re- sulting list proved to be erroneous when I beqan working on the matter recently. This led to a good deal of correspondence. It is my hope that from this correspondence and from what material I had at hand-un- fortunately neither the past cata- logues nor the past Meteors were by any means complete or accurate- the listing here presented is in every way correct.
