Bishops Win Five Straight
After defeating Woodberry Fores~ School (Met e o r May issue), t h e Bishops pushed their winning streak to 5 straight by defeating, Fishburne Military School, Bedford High School, Brookville High School, and Mil!er School.
In the Fishburn contest, playro at Waynesboro, Ist baseman, rkwie Pitt, with a triple and two single~. led his mates to a 6-3 victory behind +he steady pitching of Joe Crute, a'l:! Buddy Aldridge. Jack Stou.Jh~on chipped in with a triple Md a ~inglc, while Loyden Wood, and Shannon Shirley added 2 Hits apiece to the 13 hit barrage.
On May 5, V. E. S. defeated aed- ford 4-1 at Bedford. Layden Wood drove in what proved to be the win-
ning runs in the Ist inning with a !ong home run after Johnny Barlow hdd singled.ยท Joe Crute got the Otters out in the Ist inning but then gave way to Buddy Aldridge because of a sore arm.
The Bishops returned home May 9, to pound out a 12-4 decision over Miller School. Layden Wood, Jack Stoughton, and Fred Woodward, each collected o double and a single to lead the way. Miller's Bob John- son tried hard to keep his team in the game with a second inning, home run, a double and a single. Regular catcher Johnny Barlow took over mound chores and gove up 6 hits in the 8 frames he worked.
V. E. S. got number 5, defeating Brookville High School 8-4 at Lynch- burg on May II. The Bishops broke

up a light pitching dual bo~ween Joe Crute and "Leftie" Sonny Mayberry with a 6 run onslaught in the 6th inn- ing to drive Mayberry from the mound. Crute's 2 run double was the frames big blow. Crute gave up 4 hits in 8 frllmes, with Southpaw Buddy Aldridge retiring the side in the ninth.
Bishops Lose Last Two Contests
The Bishops dropped games to W oodberry Forest School, and Har- grave Military Academy, but still managed to hang up the best record by a V. E. S. baseball squad since
1942 with a record of 7 wins and five losses.
