committed 8 errors while losing I 1-3. The only bright spots for V. E. S. were 2 hits apiece by Doug Van Noppen, Duke Taliaferror, and Buddy Aldridge. Tommy Glascock scattered 9 hits to pick up the win for the Tigers.
In the Bishops last 1950 contest played on their home field southpaw Buddy Aldridge lost a heartbreaking
.. 3-2 decision to Hargrave Military Academy's Billy Roberts. Aldridge gave up only 3 singles compared to Roberts 4 but saw the Cadets tally two runs in the 4th inning on Fred Woodward's error. The Bishops came fighting back to get o single tally in the 8th on Shannon Shirley's base hit scoring Layden W ood from 2nd . In '~e ninth V. E. S. got another run when Aldridge singled with two men qn, scoring Howard Pitt, who had also singled, from second. Here Roberts rose to the occasion and struck out pinch hitter, Duke Taliaferror, to win
V. E. S.-Miller School Meet
A combined team of varsity non- lettermen and junior varsity track men beat o surprising Miller School cinder squad 530-480. With only two lettermen participating, Len Muse and Morris Warner, the Baby Bishops made a good showing with several _ hopefuls for next year walking off with
first place honors.
Jimmy Farinholt won the I00-yard dash, Morris W arner, the 220, and Jim Hunter and Earl Johnson won the discus. Len Muse, this year's cap- tain, took a first in the broad jump.
Field Day
One of V. E. S.'s most successful field days was enjoyed by the whole school as the Whites captained by "Chick" Bradley defeated the Gar- nets, led by Len Muse, by a I190- 92 0 score.
Johnny Barlow and Jack Stoughton,
on the White team were high scorers
with 13 and IS points respectively,
in the senior divisions. In the junior
part, Jimmy Farinholt led the White
team with first in the I00 and 220
yard dashes. In the weight events,
Joe Crute and Jimmy Hunter walked
off with rhe honors in the shot put
and discus, respectively. Buddy
Aldridge, pitching ace of the base- ball team, took the brood jump, with Stoughton winning the high jump and 440-yard run.
