The Science Department of V. E. S. was in a serious plight when it was learned at the last minute that the Science Master, Mr. Calvin Wyatt, would not return as he was going into the air force. However, the day was saved w h e n Mr. William Ferrel agreed to teach biology, chemistry, and physics. Mr. Ferrel is a native of Lynchburg. He received his bachelor's degree at Lynchburg Col- lege and his Master's degree at the University of Virqinia.
In Mr. Ferrel V. E. S. has an ex- pe rienced teacher, as he tauqht at Martinsville High School last year. In addition to teachinq he is in charge of the group of boys who do not go out for organized ath- letics, known to the bovs as the 4-F squad. He served in the army for fo ur years. Two of these four yea rs were spent in India, with the ordi- nance department. Mr. Ferrel and his charming wife occupy an apartment in the new gym.
W e think this new couple is an extra nice addition to V. E. S.
