The Honor System
(Continued from poge 4, col. I) which is sadly but correctly the dis-
missal from the school of an offend- ing student.
The Honor System at V.E.S. is and should always be the basis of its operation. It is through the honor system that we learn to live together, work together and even to play to- gether. It is a system that protects us from the intrusion of dishonesty in any field from the outside, but it is a system that must have the complete support of the school. boys and fac- ulty. It is our system and one which we must prize and obey (to keep it).
It is truly a wonderful thing.
It wasn't long ago that I was taking a monthly test. When the test began every student bent over his own paper and began his work with only an occasional glance at the board or through the window in search of an invisible answer, but not once did I see a stolen glance in the direction of another's paper. In the middle of the period the master conducting the class rose without saying a word and left the room to attend to some business of his own, while we went on. The room remained silent and, as a matter of fact, it seemed that the glances through the windows and at the board became much less fre- quent. At the end of the period the
master returned and upon findmg that the test which he had given ·.vas taking the boys longer than he ~ot e•ten a word abouf the test wa; sooken until after the papers had all· been returned. I think what a wcnderful thing this system is. Rememb'3r, U:1- der the honor system you gat wl-tat you give. It's yours to honor and obey.
Now as I close and as we all start for home I want to wish to you each and everyone, students, p a r e n t s, friends and faculty, that this might be for you all the merriest of merry Christmases yet, and that there will be oceans more of them for you.
Merry, Merry Christmas and Hap- py, Happy New Year.

The Old Astrologer
(Continued from poge 5, col. 2) good.
McCracken is getting a new room- mate. Anyone looking for greener pastures? .
There is a master gold tooth 1n Santa's pack for Sam Pierson. Sam says he won't be able to blow any- more square rings, but it will keep the flies out.
Jim Davidson still wants a way to trisect an angle, but Santa is afraid of what Jim might do with a tri- sected angle.
Down in 1he pack there is a pack- age of eleven one-way tickets to Tumbuctoo marked, "To the Faculty."
The Old Astrologer hurries on back home and gets out his monster egg- nog bowl and an out-board motor to mix it with. Due to his frequent taste tests the old man feels pretty good so he jumps into the mixture and drinks it dry to save himself from drowning.

The Chapel
(Continued from poge 3, col. I) some humor attached to it too. Once in the middle of a service, the elec- tric power failed and as the organ droned to a halt and everything was left in darkness, Dr. Randolph dis- missed the congregation.
In the chapel there are three plaques. First, there is one concern- ing the dedication by Chiswell La~g horne which is the most outsrandmg one. There is one to the Reverend Thomas Nelson, D.O., the first Senior Master and Rector. He remained here only four years but was a most outstanding man. The third plaque is to John M. Ladd, History professor for sixteen years until his death. This was presented by the faculty at the time.
Three alumni, Robert A. Magill. Jr., Claiborne Smith and John Hig- ginson, gave to the chapel two Eu- charistic candle sticks for the altar. The two collection plates came from
Epiphany Church, as did our infa- mous bell. Nearly all the chapel altar furniture and other brass was re- ceived as gifts except for the stand on which the Bible rests and the al- tar vases.
The V.E.S. chapel is very effective in its simplicity. It has a genuinely sincere air about it. -J.P. B.
V. E. S. Is Your School (Continued from poge 3, col. 3)
sports that need our support. We all know that our school activities are limited and there is only one reason for this. Too many of us sit around and only talk about how we wish th0 school had this and that, but there seems to be no one who is willing to try to do any more than talk about it. Even when one person does try to start a new organization or the like, he can't get enough of his fellow students to support him, because they want some other activity started and the result is a sum total of zero. Let's get together. V.E.S. used to have many clubs and activities which it does not have now, and they faded away only because there was too much of a selfish attitude and not enough spirit to support them and keep them alive.
It seems that every school paper has its articles on school spirit, and they all seem to be along the same line. It looks like a lot of paper and print has been wasted too. I too am another writer who doesn't seem to know just what line would inspire yo.u. The only one I know to tell you 1s: This is Your Year and Your School. How about doing your part to make this for you and your fellow students the Year of all Years and the school of all schools by supporting your campus campaigns?
