Something Brand New!
Yes indeed the prettiest thing to hit V. E. S. in many moons! A new Chevrolet all-metal station wagon. It even has the school name painted on the side. But of all the shining admir- ing faces gazing on this "bundle of beauty" there was one which out shown all . . . Mr. Gannaway. This baby is to be under his watchful and thrifty care.
In all seriousness though, this won- derful gift was given to the school by a very good friend. It will be used to carry small groups of boys into town on basketball trips and the Varsity on some trips. It will undoubtedly be a very big help around school. It's something we've needed for some time and it is certainly most appre- ciated by the school.
Mr. Gannaway A Grandpa Again!
Wednesday, November 25 saw the entrance into the world of John Gannaway Hart, Mr. Gannaway 's second grandson. The proud mother is Edie who is remembered by alumni and some students. John was born in Newport News and the Harts are liv- ing on a farm near Cologne, Va.
A few doys ago. while the goats of the 'V" Club were Leing tortured, the rest of the school wos treated by the showing o f a mo- tion picture in stu dy hall with the school's new 16mm pro- jector. The f1lm, ' House On 92nd Street," was enjoyed by all. This included bot h faculty and students. This fine
projector was purchased only recent- ly. It will be used for the showing of educational films as well as for entertainment. This first picture showed how our ever alert F. B. I. tracked down enemy agents in this country during the last war. W e hope that the next picture will come soon and be just as interesting as the first .
Party!
At lunch, Wednesday, December I0, we were all treated to ice cream and cake by a good friend of the school, Mr. Lamar. They were given for the splendid job all three foot- ball teams turned in this fall. There was a cake for every table so every- one got plenty. Never before have we all left the dining hall so full and so happy. There were cakes of near- ly any color that could be desired,
black, white, yellow, and pink.
After supper in the evening, when i~ was possible to hold some more, the varsity team was treated to two more delicious cakes. The r e was enough (which is unusual) ice cream t o o as we all had big servings. Many thanks Mr. Lamar, everything was perfect.
