Maury Reid, 1917
Maury Reid, brother of Mrs. W. L. Moore, 1709 Grace St., died Friday afternoon at a Los Angeles, Calif. hospital. Mr. Reid had lived in California for the last several years after his retirement from business. He was born in Pittsylvania County, July 4. 1899, the son of the late Edward Sidney and Sally Scruggs Reid. In addition to Mrs. Moore he is survived by another sister, Mrs. William Hern- don of Chatham and a brother, Mun- ford Reid of Detroit. Funeral serv- ice will be held in the chapel at Scott Funeral Home, Thursday at II:30 a. m. Interment will be in Chatham Burial Park.
Koontz Promoted, '49
Cadet Warren W. Koontz, Jr., son
of Dr. W. W. Koontz of Oakwood Pl., has been promoted to the bat- talion staff at Virginia Military In- stitute. A first classman at the in- stitute, Koontz has been accepted as a member of the fall 1953 class in the school of medicine at the University of Virginia.

Phil Hughes, 1939, of Tabor City, N. C., was married on July 26 to Miss Florence Christine Floyd.
Claiborne T. Smith, of Rocky Mount, N. C., 1943, received his M.D. in June from University of Pennsylvania. He is now at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.

Jo Cherry, 1948, sent us a Christ- mas card from Germany the other day.
We are sorry to report that Lt. David White, 1948, was injured in a car occident recently.
Edgar R. Betty, 1946, came by the other day. He had a very attractive young lady with him. He is in In- surance business in Asheville, N. C.
We have heard, indirectly, that Val Stieglitz, 1946, is a proud papa. Val is in the U. S. Navy doing special work following his degree in Petrol- eum Engineering.
Will iam S. J . Gallop, 1944, visited the school during the Thanksgiving vacation. Sorry we missed you, Billy.
