Bishops Upset Thomas Dale 13-6
Thomas Dale High School. unde- feated in fourteen contests, more than met their match on November I, against an underrated Bishop eleven. So good was the Bishop's defense that the Dalemen drove beyond the home team's IS yard line only once. The Thomas Dale T. D. resulted from an intercepted pass.
The Bishops scored first in the first quarter when Milt Barber threw Blair Farinholt a pass that resulted in a 68 yard gain for pay dirt. David- son's extra point try split the up- rights for a total of seven.
Dale scored in the second quarter with a 48 yard runback of an inter- cepted pass. The Dale conversion was wide.
Neither team threatened in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter Thomas Dale's drives were twice met and stooped by a hard charging Bishop line.
With three minutes left in the game, V. E. S. was leading 7-6 but Dale was again threatening on the Bishop's 2S yard line. Dale tried a pass but was thwarted in the at- tempt by Hutter who intercepted in and drove to the 31. Farinholt then

Joe it looked like would really pick up yardage this year, but, Lady Luck intervened and gave him a sprained knee, bruised ribs, and a very bad swollen eye. Through all this, Joe continued to play games on defense, but his offensive power was
sorely missed.
No less hard luck kids though, are
Joe Towe and Henry Chiles. Both suffered serious leg injuries.
Congratulations are in order too, for Mr. Wyatt, the two Co-Captains Derringer and Johnstone, and the whole J. V. team for turning in one terrific season. Unscored upon in S tilts, they racked up a total of 160 points.

broke off tackle and raced 6S yards for the clinching T. D.
The Chester High coach said that the V. E. S. forward wall was the best that his team had come up against. Outstanding on defense for the Bishops were, Davidson, Joe Barber, Milt Barber, Chandler, Kemper, B.
Bishops Ousting Yellow Jackets 6-0
An erratic and injury plagued Bishop eleven found itself November IS to win its fourth game of the
season over Randolph-Macon.
V. E. S. scored late in the first quarter. "Bullet Bill" Stephenson in- tercepted a R.-M.A. pass and re- turned it 36 yards to the opponents' 41 yard line. Then, after Joe Barber had carried for one yard, Bob Hughes slanted off right tackle and sped 40 yards for the game's only score. In the second quarter V. E. S. threatened again after a fumble was recovered by Chandler on' the R.-M. A. IS. The Bishops could not gain, however, and lost the ball on downs. In the last half Randolph-Macon repeatedly drove deep into Bishop territory but the V. E. S. forward wall continually threw them back just short
of pay dirt.
With less than two minutes left
in the game R.-M.A. turned to long passes. Twice, Keller hit men with passes to put the ball on the mid- field stripe. Then, with time almost gone, Keller threw a pitchout to Moore who, in turn, threw a long pass complete to Nichols on the eight. With only one play remaining, the Yellow Jackets tried to crack the Bishop line. The Bishops held firm, however, and stopped the Yellow- Jackets drive as though it had come up against a wall of iron. Thus ended the game.

The Bishops made the long trip up to Alexandria all in vain for they were soundly whipped by the E. H. S. gridders. The Maroons not only had the better team but also all the breaks. The final score was 46-6.
E. H. S. went into the lead early, scoring twice in the first period. V. E. S. deflected a pass deep in their territory which fell into the hands of George Bruce who crossed the goal line untouched. The second score came when Lee Putney bucked over from the two after Lynab Sheriff had intercepted a V. E. S. pass.
In the second quarter the winners scored thrice more. Twice by Fletcher Carter's line plunges and the third on a pass.
The third quarter was the Bishop's best as they made two stands with- in the twenty-four yard line. The only V. E. S. score came on a long pass from Milton Barber t o Blair Farin- holt who caught it on the fifty and raced the distance for a T. D. Wil- liams was the big gun for the Maroons in the second half.
