Dear Mr. Banks:
I imagine it will be somewhat of a
surprise to you to be hearing from me. This letter is not a spur of the m o m e n t i m p u l s e , i t is s o m e t h i n g I have been meaning to do for quite sometime.
An army post on a Sunday after- noon reminds me somewhat of Sun- day afternoons at V.E.S. Just as at V.E.S. if you don't go to town. It consists of reading, writing, or listening to the radio. The latter is what I happened to be doing when a song with the same tune as "Old V. E. S." was played. Mem- ories of V. E. S. being brought sud- denly into focus makes the four years since I left seem a very short time for so many things to happen.
If, in my last year there, someor.e had told me that in a short time I would be missing the Army 0. D. I am sure you can imagine what I would have told them. I am also quite certain the boys there now have the sa me thoughts about the army as I had. Those thoughts be- ing no thoughts a t all.
At present I am in an anti-aircraft outfit but I have put in for Air- borne. If this comes through I will be transferred to either Fort Ben- ning, Ga. or Fort Bragg, N. C. for six weeks training. Can you see me hopping out of an airplane?
By the way, back in September or October while I was taking basic training at Indiantown Gap, Pa.
I ran into Austin Saffer. He was attached to an outfit not far from mine. O f course t here is no telling where he is now but I hear that his outfit had been shipped overseas. That was merely rumor and there- fore can't be banked on.
I hope that Mrs. Banks and Joe are fine. Please give my rega rds to everyone there.
You might tell some of your stu- dents who gripe about the demerits and restrictions that "they never had it so good."
Sincerely, Jack.

Dear Mr. Gannaway:
I'm sorry I delayed sending my two
dollars for so long. I am getting along pretty well here at W. and L. I was initiated into the Kappa Sigma Fraternity earlier this month.
I'll bet you would be amazed to hear that I got a Bin math last semes- ter. In fact, I was surprised myself. I am having a hard time keeping little Jo-Jo Banks in line, but I think I have a pretty good chance of succeeding.
Sincerely, Steve Quillen.
P. S. I certainly enjoy the Meteor each month.

(Continued from poge 3, col. I) This y e a r , we lucky i n m a t e s

The myriad of advantages enjoyed by members includes exe mption from a meager portion of Friday night study hall and from chapel offerings. (Cynics claim that this latter privilege is responsible for the entire membership. "Scrooge" McDowell, o n e o f t h e m o r e non-
cynical souls, agrees heartily.)
