Waxahaxachippee, Goodbye March 30th was a sad day in the hearts of the citizens of Waxahaxa- chippee (By the Sea). The little Floridian Gulf Coast village turned out en masse to wave good-bye to a sun tanned band of baseball war-
riors from V. E. S.
And as the sun slowly sank in the
west we could see proud Mayor Ed- ward Hoyllenspiegle, his arm around Sox S-ibley's shoulder, sipping a final mint julep toast to the "boys." Sib- ley was quietly reading a set of train- ing rules but managed an occasional glance at the julep.
Joe "Hog Jowls" Barber, who came to Florida to lose weight but lost only a few points off his batting average, completely ignored six beauty queens on his lap and looked upward at a soft balmy breeze blowing in from Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Just above the breeze floating on a cloud
could be seen one Harvey Farinholt with hundreds of little visions of Dottie just above the cloud. Even higher, and this guy was really up in the air, the Boss of the Belgian Congo, Jim- bo Wiley, rings around his neck and his pigtails tied to a dogbone, was fondly caressing his newest and bestest toy, a curve ball.
in their minds was a phenomenal .700 batting average by Sibley and an equally amazinq .600 performance by Nick "da hick" Stieqlitz. Be Be Thompson's catching job was "Tops" in all respect but The Thinker, Rob- ert Hughes, can't figure who "Tops" is. However the man the Waxahaxa- chippeeans will never forget was that " Squeaky" Baldock guy who played first base with a potato sack, ran the bases on Hank 's souped up Pushthe- ground-downmobile, and swung from the heels with a 46 inch plow axle.
As our little boat sailed placidly out of the harbor the strains of the grapefruit juiced Bishops' anthem
soared to the skies. "Maybee we wuz a Iii' tipsy
Down in Waxahaxachipsy
But Bazebol season's hyah now
We gonna get behind da plow now
And really roll on out dis yeah 'Cause winnin' time is finly heah."

V. E. S. Defeats Bedford, 6-3 The Bishops rallied in the sixth for four runs to win the season opener, 6-3, behind the beautiful four-hit pitching of Blair Farinholt. The losing Bedford nine collected 4 hits to the
Bishops' 6.
Bebe Thompson singled with two on
base in the bottom of the sixth to pull his team ahead 4-3. From then on in Farinholt preserved his win. Farinholt, who collected two hits, opened the hitting with a single to right field in the bottom of the fifth. Fred Schill- ing tripled to left-center to start the Bishop rally in the big sixth. Joe
Barber and Farinholt walked to load the bases. Then Milton Barber and Thompson singled to put the Bis~ops ahead.
Farinholt's brilliant pitching per- formance was topped by blazing three fast strikes down the alley with the bases loaded in the eighth. In the course of the game, Farinholt struck out 14 men, giving up only four safeties, and allowing three bases on balls.
Back on earth the Waxahaxachippee were
three rugged intra squad games be- tween the Pickled Herring Boats and the Fried Shrimp Boats. Uppermost
