MR. LEE SHIVERS
Alex Dirom President of Senior Class
This year's senior class, largest in many years, held a meeting several weeks ago and elected officers. Dr. Barton reminded us before leaving the room, that before privileges could be discussed, we must consider the responsibilities that our class would take on. In the past four years an increasing number of town boys have been attending school, either as five day or day students. This is the first graduating class to contain a com- paratively large number of them. Of
Just As W e Hoped , Eise nhower!
On Tuesday, Nov. 4th, Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower and the Repub- lic an party swept to an overwhelming victory over Adlai E. Stevenson and the once powerful Democratic party.
The people showed by their votes that they were tired of ยท~he twenty year reign of the Democrats and President Harry S. Truman's "Tru- manism. " Eisenhower jumped to an early lead and was never headed in the contest.
The result was highly pleasing to the boys at V.E.S. Early in the sc~ool year, The Meteor held an election and "Ike" came out on top by nearly thre~ to one.
Eisenhower in his successful bid for the presidency split the traditionally ' Solid South." Most observers agree this to be one of the most important outcomes of the election as it will certainly cause more attention to be focused on the south which for some time had been considered "in the bag" by the Democrats.
Gen. Eisenhower needs no intro- duction. His name has almost becoma a legend in his own lifetime, due to his successful command of the Euro- pean theater in World War II.
In conceding defeat, Gov. Steven- son urged the people of the U. S. to back the General and expressed great hope that he will be the instrument or peace for the whole world.
Thus, comes to an end the twenty year reign of the Democrats and the beginning of a fight for world peace under Dwight D. Eisenhower.
MR. SHULTE RIDES Pep-Py Committee
After noticing a very evident lack of school spirit, last year especially, the "V" club, under the direction of Mr. Shulte, set up a pep committee. Paul Fulton, Jr. was made head cheer- leader. Jack Boyer, "Scotty" Mc- Gregor, AI Barrow and Jim White are his assistants. The various seasons bring on a variety of sports and a variety in the boys who participate, ;o there will necessarily be a change in the committee as the year pro- gresses. So far the boys on the com- mittee have been doing a top notch job leading the "grandstands" in cheering. Let's hope the rest of the year will find us cheering just as well as we have in the past two games. Way to go gents!

class,
After a short while of sharp politic- nq and debating, the class came up with some very fine officers. Alex Dirom is this year's President. Lou is from Lynchburg. The Veep is Arthur Emory from Gloucester, Va., Secre- tary of the class is Jim Kester from Winston-Salem, N. C. The treasurer is another North Carolinian, hailing from Snow-Hill to be exact. He could be none other than Pete Miller. The funny man or class prophet is Paul
