FABULOUS FAT BOYS BLAST PURPLE DIAPERS
Virginia Episcopal School's high- scoring Jayvees upset the highly- touted Purple Diapers, 46-34, due to laulty officiating and the fact that •heir coach was scorekeeper. The Men of Sid ran the Jayvees ragged in the first quarter, leading at one time by I1-3. But the dead eyes of the J.V.'s, averaging over a hundred points a game, could not be held in submission. Golden Greek, Gu iseppe Ross, pitched in with Randolph Tur- ner, and although the sharp shooting of Torchy Cunningham and Monkey Man Hassell continually hit, the J.V.'s led by one point at half time. It took a little pep talk by Dr. McClure (no injections till after game) to inspire •he Little Colonels, and they forged ahead in the third quarter. The J.V.'s, thanks to some lucky throwing by Alco Thomas and Melvin Long, how- ever, went ahead to stay late in the third. The fourth quarter was noted for its clean play and sportsmanship with the exception of 33 personal fouls and 2 brawls. The first occurred when li nebacker Elco Thomas inter- cepted a Hassell forward pass, and returned it 5 yards before Shiv Hunt, bruising end, tc!!ckled him on the 45. Thomas fumbled and fists flew. later, guard and captain Sid Chiles, laid a good clean body block on op- posing tackle Cloyd Philpott. Refer- ees, coaches, and players finally pulled them apart. Later a little heat envolved from a tie-up between J.V.'s Rollins, Barker, Thomas, and Turner
and Diapers Hunt, Cunningham, Cowper, Jones, Chiles, and Kellogg. As the final horn sounded, the boys shook hands. Tribute must be made to Shaw Smith and J. Horton Park- er, the two refs, who refunded the losers' bribe money.

By playing a good brand of ball, the Bishops defeated a strong AMA team 50-46 in a thrilling game at the V.E.S. fieldhou se. The score was tied time and time again throughout both the first and the second halves.
The Bishops held the lead for the final three and a half, but at one time the score was led by a single point. Never in the second half did either team get more than three points ahead of the other until V.E.S. got its four-point winning edge in the fin- al ten seconds.

Bishops Bow 48-45
A last qua rter ra lly by Fishbu rne Military School enabled the home team to squeeze out a 48-45 verdict over the visiting Bishops.
V.E.S. led until the final two min- utes of play when the home team went ahead. Even then they had a chance to take the game, but erratic passing again was dominant among the Bishops, and this lost the game. The Bishops started slowly, but were one-point leaders at the half and held a 41-36 advantage at the end of the third quarter. They we re never headed after that until the final two minutes.
V.E.S. played without the services of Co-Captain Shaw Smith, and start- ing guard Jim Woolery went out in the first quarter with an ankle injury. In addition, they lost starters Brent
