TRACK SEASON
Every year after spring vacation, when all the boys are back from a vacation of no smoking, - - - , and
lo. 5 - - , and are in perfect physical condition, track season opens, and

ginio,
everybody gladly dashes to the lower field to begin exercises. Even t h e 4-F boys, with no urging from the faculty, join the team. Everybody gladly executes the coach's every wish, because he asks in such a kindly, friendly way. N o b o d y even thinks about "Goofing Off."
This would all be very nice, if it

PEOPLE IN THE PUBLIC EYE
Cannon, Shanklin, and Rollins are neatly put on bounds by Rollins' cool date, Lizann .
General Lee takes a shot in the dark and hits an unknown victim.
Moye takes a weekend "at Mrs. Morrison's."
Ervin gets accepted to U.N.C. Too bad we all can't be senator's neph- ews.
Chaffin is seen with Sherry con- stantly.
What does Mr. Lunsford want with those funny papers?
Roe gets it again (the shaft).
Gillespie, Craighill, and Cowper enjoy a week in study hall thanks to cool Wally.
Club Willie takes a weekend-and takes the club with him.
"The boys" do the town in Ber- mudas.
Bells claims the mice are taking over the school.
Daddy Cowper is the good word from Raleigh.
The Four Horsemen-"Driver," "K- Boy," "Head," and Roe.
"Duals"-joins the faculty.
McKee gets the short-sheet shaft -a Ia Head and Ervin.
"Moose" vs. "Lion"- a for the king of beasts.
THE OLE ASTROLOGER
Ah, here it is, time again for the Ole Astrologer and his telescope, with the purple-green lenses, to rest its little pink eyeball on a joyous 160.
Everybody packed his grip and went home for the vacation except one-Suitcase Simpson, a poor man's collie, has misplaced his linerie and can't leave. Someone saw them walk- ing home from Appomattox.
Basketball finally ends, and the other season comes in, much to the delight of the team. Craighill, Moye, and Chaffin joined the boys over the lost weekend. W e finally beat St. Christopher's in something. Con- gratulations to the basketball team.
Some more identifications:
"AI!, right, May, you just calm down .
"Shoot! I don' see why dis idn right. I did it by logarithms."
"Pass the cold cream."
"Hunt, if you can't be quiet, get out!"
"Please help Waddell make a pay- ment on the Pontiac."
"If you don't like the way I'm teaching this class, you can leave." "I may be a bit over critical. but
Ithink ..."
"Save all the funnies."
And here are a few demerits for
the month:
Shanklin, Cannon, Rollins- 8 for
12:40 return after the V Club dance. They didn't even complain.
Moye, Gillespie, Craighill, and Cowper- 5 for study hall activities on the front campus and bell tower. Reel Cool Eels!
Dr. Barton cuts up Bulldog after the St. Christopher's game by rec- ognizing him as a great athlete in the sport played that afternoon- football. He's such an all-around boy you can't help but get mixed up.
What's this? Roe is seen running around in the mud on the baseball

Even now my con- centration is broken by the clanking of chains in the coaches' dressing room and my hand made unsteady by the dim, flickering light of the solitary candle in my dark cell, and the thought of what is to come.
