Name: James Elvey Thomas, Jr., (Eicobar).
Born: N. C.'s Capital City.
Usually Seen: Protecting the prized knob from Jones.
Pet Love: The "Lodge."
Pet Hate: Knob-feelers.
Favorite Pastime: 1) censored, 2)
unprintable, 3) unmentionable.
The "man with the knob" ventured up to V.E.S. last year from God's Country (N.C.) and in his two years has really made quite a record for himself. Last year Elvey played var- sity footboll and was a star on the J.V. Basketball Squad, and in the spring he worked his way up to one of the top positions on the golf team. He was also distinguished by being named " Mr. Best-Dressed" of V.E.S. in 1954. His popularity and leader- ship. earned him a counselorship this sess1on, and he holds down Third Main West along with "Lush" and "Waiter."
This fall Elco earned a reputation as one of the ruggedest linemen on the field ond became a V Club mem- ber for his trouble. He was a starting guard on the J.V. Basketball Team's "Baby Globetrotters" this winter and will hit the greens again in the spring.
Last but not least, Elvey's hard work has made him a top student, and he ronks high in the Class of
1955 academicolly-a job well-done in any man's language. V.E.S. will lose a great guy when Elvey pulls up stakes and goes home to "Cow Col- lege" next year. Good luck, boy.

Always Seen: "Messing around"
on a golf course.
Always Heard: "Get out of here,
leech. "
Favorite Pastime: Teaching Billy
Joe Patton the art of golf.
This is " Big Jawn's" second year at V.E.S., and in that time he has prove? himself to be one of the top boy~ 1n school. He made first string vars1ty football in 1953, playing in the back field and at guard. He re- peated this year and has also played first string Jayvee basketball both years. However, " Lush" really blos- soms in the spring. It is doubtful whether a finer golfer has ever trod the greens for V.E.S. and it is hoped that he will be the key man in a fine
season this year.
He has always been one of the most popular boys in school and his sharp wit and friendly humor have livened many classes, bull sessions, and athletic trips. It was a surprise t o exactly no one, when Lush was made a counselor early this year. Next year he plans to go the way of all true Tar Heels, to Chapel Hill and U.N.C. We know that he will be a success both there and in his plans for a medical career. Best wishes to a great guy.

Name: John Ward, Ill, ("Percy"). Born: What do you think?
Home: Whiteville, North Carolina. Always Seen: Playing cards with
Taylor.
Favorite Pastime: Going to Jud.
ith's Creek to hunt for rocks.
Pet Love: Monkeying with radios.
This is "Percy's" second year here at V.E.S. and he has tried to make the most of his opportunities, as a glance at almost any Headmaster's list over the past two years will show.
He has many varied and unusua interests, including a keen interest in poetry and nature, a talent for mu· sic, and a love of taking apart and repairing electronic equipment. He is also a swimmer, having swam Lake Waccamaw near his home.
Next year his dry humor, and mean clarinet squeaks will be missed when John follows the well· worn p a t h from V.E.S . t o U.N.C. We wish him the best of luck, know· ing that he will be as much of a sue·
cess there as he has been here.
