Charles Salisbury Hotchkiss, Jr.
In this, his first year around the Ole 160, Charles has proved himself most v-:1rsat'le. He took over the full time job of being the V.E.S. organist and has drawn many compliments for his talented performance. With senior subjects, and even Latin IV, he has earned study out consistently and has
often copped Honor Roll.
This winter, he won top honors in
the VirEpScho Players' production of The Milky Way. Giving a fine per- formance as a socialite who takes up boxing as a hobby, Charles was re- sponsible for many of the laughs in this amusing comedy.
In the early spring, Charles played the organ at St. John's for the ordina- tion of Mr. Barton. This was certainly not an easy job, but he made a good showing.
During track season Charles turned :o the. 880. a~d has been steadily 1mprov1ng h1s t1me in that event. He wound up th~ season as the Bishop's second man 1n that gruelling race.
Next year he enters Duke to start ~ medical .career. He plans to study 1n Europe 1n the near future and with his ambition he'll be sure to be a success. He's added much to the school and we'll hate to see him shove off.
James Keith Porter
Straight down from the cold bar- ren wastes of Alaska comes the most famous dog sled team in the world, pulled by Lassie-Tin-Tin and driven by the one and only "Yukon Pete" Port- er. Taking off his furs, he put on a football uniform for the first time and did a v~ry good job at guard. After he was taught to speak Enqlish and to stop rubbing noses on dates, he be- came a good student and gets better than average grades-and dates.
Trying to copy his Dad, he began smoking a pipe, something that would have been very difficult in an igloo.
"Peter" was a steady horse champ during the winter months, but con- served most of his time for studying.
This year he was selected manager of the football team and made a big contribution. It was a lot of work and he did a great job. He earned his letter and got in the V Club soon after.
This spring Keith began throwing the discus and shot down on the lower field. He pretends he's throwing snowballs at the penguins.
But all good things must end and next yeur Pete leaves to enter Hampden-Sydney. He's added a lot to V.E.S. and we know he'll do the same at college.
William Clifton Perry
A bolt of lightning came d own from the sky and there appeared be- fore us "the Gift." As everyone bowed down at his presence, he spoke his important words, "Well, here I am." He immediately established him- self in the gym so his "little" brother couldn't hurt him.
To prove that the gods were with him last fall he and Pink Rudy wrap- ped themselves around a telephone pole and he only suffered a broken neck. He decided that he'd better not leave for about a month after that.
Solomon decided to help him out and gave him enough wisdom to get study out. He frequently returns to pay a visit to the study hall at the request of the Gu, though.
He went out for Varsity Basket- ball and looked good, but because of his neck injury decided to practice golf instead. In the spring he took to the greens and became second man on the team. He has continued to pick up points for the linkman even
]
team.
Jupiter gives him his O.K. next
year as he continues his schooling at Wake Forest, where he intends to study hard and win many friends. Good luck!
