V. E. S. Planting Committee Asks Alumni Aid
Stirred to action by the unsightly aspect of what they term "bare brick walls, bereft of any foundation plant- ing whatsoever, rising straight from Virginia's red clay," a group of local women has o r g a n i z e d t h e V .E.S. Planting Committee. These mothers of past and present V.E.S. s~udents, with true distaff enflrgy and dedica-
tion, are hard at work trying to col- lect funds in order to get their pro- gram under way as soon as possible.
A beginning planting plan has al- ready been drafted, submitted to the powers-that-be, and approved. This plan calls for a number of holly trees and various shrubs to be placed in strategic locations along the front of the Main Building. Other plans, bearing in mind anticipated future buildings, roads and walks, are also being drawn up.
Noting that March is the best month for planting in this section of the country, the Committee is eager to get started, but, as it candidly states, "With absolutely no funds, we hesitate to take spade in hand." Through the medium of letters, word of mouth, and the pages of the Meteor, an appeal is being issued to all friends of V.E.S. to have a part in this laudable enterprise. In emphasizing its belief that " mony a mickle maks a muckle," the Commit- tee states that any contribution will be deeply appreciated. A check, no matter how small, made out to the V .E.S. P l a n t i n g Fund a n d m a i l e d t o Mrs. J. Lyons Davidson, I06 Wood- land Avenue, Lynchburg, Virginia,
will go far towards realizing the early success of this project.
"And," adds the Committee, "of course, your contribution is tax de- ductible! "

MID-WINTER DANCE BIG SUCCESS
Virginia Episcopal School held its annual Mid-Winters Dance on Feb- ruary 14 in the Barksdale Memorial Gymnasium. The music was furnished by the Vagabonds of Lynchburg.
The theme of the dance was Val- entine's Day, and the gym was taste- fully decorated accordingly by the Hop Committee under the direction o f Mr. Lunsford. The color scheme was red and white carried out by streamers extending the width of the ceiling. The main point of interest was a Ia rge red heart suspended from the ceiling.
The dance was very well attended by a large number of couples al- though there was a stag line com- posed of the unfortunate few.
The chaperones for the dance were Mr. and Mrs. Walke, Mr. Lee and Mr. Lunsford.
