WINS OVER GLASS, WOODBERRY HIGHLIGHT BASEBALL SEASON
The Baseball Bishops, after an opening day loss to Brookville, grasp- ed two coveted wins from the sticky fingers of E. C. Glass and Woodberry Forest pitchers to slam their way through the start of one of the most successful seasons ever.

The V. E. S. Bishops evened their
prep league record when they de-
feated the Woodberry Forest nine
on the home diamond. V. E. S. scored
their ten runs behind a ten-hit at-
tack on three W oodberry pitchers. Dale Carter allowed only three hits,
all in the fifth inning.
The Bishops failed to score in the
first, but in the following six innings they scored in order. To start the second, Edmunds walked, stole sec- ond, and was batted home by two sacrifices. In the third Cole singled and was driven in by Floy-d's double.
Jap Richardson opened the fourth with a walk and was singled home by Dale Carter, who was batted in to score by Cunningham. The Bishops' final six runs c a m e in t h e fifth and sixth innings, featured by Frank Gray's triple and two dou- ble steals by Cunningham, Gray, Wentz, and Floyd. Cole led the hitting attack with three.

scoring I, 4, 2, and 4 runs respec-
tively, and holding Miller to one run
in the fourth. The winning pitcher,
Russ Wentz, allowed only two hits
and fanned ten before being re-
lieved in the fifth by Carter. Miller
used two pitchers, Miller and We/lin. c

The Bishops traveled across the
city for their first away game with the E. C. Glass Hilltoppers. The team started off in the first inning as Cunningham WCliked, Joslyn sin- gled, and Cole doubling to drive Cunningham across the plate.
Dan Floyd stepped up and belted a sacrifice fly into left, allowing J oslyn to score from third, and right- fielder Hugh Edmunds followed with a hard double to right to bring in Cole.

The Hilltoppers battled back to even things up in the second inning as they collected two walks, a sin- gle, two sacrifice bunts, and another single to bring in three runs.
After a scoreless third inning, V. E. S. rallied and scored three runs. A walk, Jap Richardson's single, and a double by Cunningham accounted for two runs. Then Cunningham went to third on a passed ball, and scored spectacularly as he stole home al- most unnoticed.
Both teams scored in the fifth, and the Hilltoppers managed to get a run across in the seventh on a walk, a passed ball, and a single but they remained on the short end of the 7-5 score.

Joslyn started things off in the first by hitting his homer after Cun- ningham had walked. The team held Miller scoreless, and Gray scored on a double by Cunningham after his own single.
Miller evened things up in the bottom of the second on runs by Miller, Hamilton, and Crance, but V. E. S. countered with a seven-run breakaway on singles by• Cole, Ed- munds, and Richardson, a double by Gray, three stolen bases, three errors, and a passed ball.
