Neal "Captain Crook" Hunt Whenever you see a nose coming
around a corner, you can be sure that i• will be followed by Captain Crook 2f the Spy Patrol with spy glass in hand. Three years a g o when t h e Crook first hit the old "160", you could tell by his bent proboscis that he would be a big hit.
Neal soon proved himself a natural leader, a good student, and a well- rounded athlete. This, added to his ability to find out all since his nose protrudes into everybody's business, was responsible for his being elected ~o the Spy Patrol.
Despite the handicap of an over- grown olfactory organ, he managed ~o sneak into the "V" club by play- ing basketball well enough to letter lost year. On account of his kosher capabilities he was elected treasurer of the "V" club this year.
We feel sure that tho Skunt will carry his success, along with his nose to Carolina, or any college of his choice. We want it known that we will miss the eighth wonder of the world, Neal's nose, just as we're sure that Raleigh did when Neal came up here.
THE SPY PATROL Jim "Young Blood" Shanklin
Here we have the Eagle, only member of the Spy Patrol who has to wear a hat while silently making the nightly bed-check. He seldom catches anyone out of bed even though he creeps down the hall as quietly as any baby elephant. When you see the boys in study hall wear- ing their shades, it's not the Beat- nik fad, just Chrome Dome keeping study hall.
Four years ago the Bald Boy'-Won- der of Bluefield, head man of the Spy Patrol, came to VES. He climbed the ladder of success fast, being elected Counselor his second year, a member of the Honor Committee last year, and Head Counselor this year. He has also been Head Waiter for the past two years.
Blood has established quite an ad- mirable athletic record as well as an outstanding academic record. He is consistently on the study-out list, usually with a ninety or above aver- age. He has lettered three times in
football, twice in basketball, and twice in track, where he is the holder of the schocl record in the shot put. (Continued on poge 9, col. 2)
Polk "Bean" Dillon
Three years ago, when Mr. Dillon,
the pencil-thick personality from Waynesboro first came on to the VES scene, it soon became apparent that he would go places. He swept through his second year like a vacuum cleaner and made many influential friends. He also managed to jump into the "V" club by lettering in track. Few people were surprised when he was announced to be on the
Honor Committee of 1959-60.
Bean is easily recognizable as he is the only member of Daddy Gu's store squad who can disappear be- hind a 966 pad, turned sideway'S. He has shown his ability as an athlete by making the varsity basketball team and lettering in track last year, and making the varsity football team this year. His grades are consistently high, and he is never too busy to give
advice to anyone.
We are certain that Polk, if he
does as well as he has done here, will go places in the monastery of his choice.
