THE METEOR
May 17, 1968
Getting off to a promising start, the Bishops slumped into an eight- game losing streak. The Bishop de- fense seemed to be the primary prob- lem. Faltering in crucial moments, it accounted for several losses when the Bishops played well otherwise.
Facing a hard-hitting Brookville team, VES scored three runs off four hits but gave up five in the third. Steve Shelton, AI Williams, Bill Me- sick, and Charlie Green picked up hits for the Bishops.
At home the Bishops proved to be no match for the Woodberry Tigers. The opposition handed VES an 8-2 loss. Norwood, Shelton, and Christian provided the home team hits.
Though VES accrued six hits to Fishburne's three, the Fishmen capi-
talized on key walks and won the game 7-3. Mesick pulled through with two hits while Geoff Norwood, Charlie Green, and Bill Alexander
had one each.
A homerun by Lynch Christian and
doubles by Charlie Green and Bill Alexander in the second gave the Bishops a two-run lead in the second game against Woodberry Forest. The hopes of a long-sought victory were smashed, however, by a third-inning defensive slump. The final score was
9-4.
The Bishops again outhit the op-
position. Allen Hamblen and Charlie Green each got two. Dan Johnson, Bill Mesick, Willie V onHacht, Bill
Alexander, and Lynch Christian pick- ed up one apiece.
Charlie Green pitches the ball to Willie Van Hacht.
